  1. Well, when your up in the dark, driving to work in the dark, stuck in doors through all the daylight and then leaving work in the dark, I think it really does have an effect.

  2. Yes, you're probably right about the studs / bolts - I seem to remember my XE ones are a course / fine thread mix but metric - X Flow be slightly older almost certainly a mix of UNC / UNF. Personally I prefer the stud method as I think it's better not to put too much pressure into the cylinder head threads and take the load on the studs and nuts (often copper nuts?) - replacing a stripped nut is far easier than repairing a stripped internal thread

  3. This should cheer you up a bit then..... This morning, the tribe of fellow slaves I call my work mates stitched me right up and I dropped myself right in it...... Names shall remain unwritten but revenge will be metered out swiftly and surely..... so get comfy and read on. "It's Monday" says the boss, "that means it's team brief"........ YAWN..... (as I've already delivered it to my small tribe.) "It's a new format....... instead of having a picture of the big cheese on the front page there's a load of safety messages and goals for the coming week"....... YAWN some more.... "Page 2 has some more"....YAWN..... "and page 3 has the photo and a message from the big cheese and some stuff about projects but it's a bit of a disappointment"...... YAWN.... BOOM, flash of comic inspiration hijacked me and I said rather too loudly "yeah there's only one tit on it"..... they all looked but no-one laughed....... they all had knowing smug looks on their faces...... there was only one thing to do at that point, I said in true panto fashion "and he's behind me isn't he?"....... the rest you can guess..... talk about an uncomfortable silence..... Nem...................

  5. We were staying at the Castleton caravan club site last year and whilst on the way found that the main road was closed with very poor diversions signed. I ended up driving down the pass with the van on the back. The police car coming up made no adverse comments but it was one of those moments in life which you say to yourself, shouldn't have done that. Anyway no harm done and luckily it was down hill as we wouldn't have made it up. Lovely scenery and looks excellent for a Westy run out, nice video by the way. Bob :d

  6. I'm the opposite, winter is the best time of the year, rugby, skiing, shooting season, fires and warm pubs after... and proper tree work without pesky insects and bats/birds getting in the way... I love winter :-)

  7. I've noticed the same, not sure what that's all about. I've noticed the chance of a wave quite possibly depends on whether said driver has the missus in the passenger seat Back in 2000ish, a lot Westfield owners I met were quite snobbish, if it wasn't brand new and wasn't powered by a 600bhp engine, then you got shunned at local meets. People buying older pre-built cars were not regarded very highly at all and in many ways the WSCC boardroom was not a hell of a lot different. The club is now feeling much more relaxed and welcoming of all Westfield (and even non-Westfield) owners, regardless of the cars age/spec or anything else for that matter. BUT I can't help feeling that others outside the WSCC, see us as being a bit like how Caterham owners were perceived 10 years ago (and probably still are). Then there are those who drive things like Cobra replica's (DAX, etc), these people probably don't want to admit they're driving a kit car.

  8. I considered writing a cheerful post to cheer you up, but to be honest I'm a bit 'meh'.

  9. Hi i am a newbie looking to purchase my first westfield in the near future. You mention your stunning example comes with the 1.8 Zetec, i was just wondering how much work would be involved to install it ready to run. I would say im fairly handy with basic mechanics so not too concerned on that point. Just wondered how involved it would be. Does the engine need a baffled/shortened sump fitted? If i were to go for carbs does this do away with any engine management system? Any extra comments/advise would be greatly received. Thanks,

  10. I cycle, ride and drive defensively. In the Westy I look out for idiots, on my bike or horse I look out for idiots. I also try not to be the idiot especially in the Westy. I also drive a Fire engine and you see bad road use from lots of different perspectives then. From inattentive pedestrians cyclists with headphones, panic drivers, motorcyclists & cyclists up ya chuff, idiots in cars trying that too, unbelievably some people who just won't conceed to let you through. The main thing lacking all round is respect from all for all. Respect that fact that the person on a bike or in the car is someone. Part of my blue light training stated to actually look at the person as you approach (if you can) you'll get more of an idea of what they're going to do. And I can't believe there are so many perfect drivers and cyclists on here... I know I'm not!

  11. Actually, just digress for a moment (that's unusual) horses / ponies have to be Micro-chipped / Freeze branded (or the not so common Hot branded) and require a Passport signed off by a vet that records these identification details - they are therefore not that far removed from a car registration system although obviously it's not that obvious when you see them (all of this is primarily related to theft and selling scams as well as food chain issues). So all you need to do is look for a Freeze mark (usually in the saddle area) or have an animal Microchip scanner - but they CAN* be identified * Of course, not all sections of our "community" follow these requirements, but then they don't follow any other "requirement" either Anyway - trotting back to the main part of this thread......
