  1. Well it seems like a long time since the Blyton weekend so I am ( again ) really looking forward to getting back out at Mira on Saturday, hope the weather can hold ( you all know my reputation for bringing the rain with me ) as my last visit to Mira was on a very very very wet day. Should be fun learning to take the right hander at the control tower in top gear ( as I'm assured I need to ) to knock the 11s off my time set in the wet and push on towards the class B target time With Keith, Pete G, David and Mark in my N2 class on the day there'll not even be a sniff of an award this time, I'll just have to settle for fifth out of 5 The Silver bullet ( number 108 ) has had a major check over and oil change since being thrashed to within an inch of it's life all weekend at Blyton and is holding together remarkably well Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday Martin

  2. http://parts-shop.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/ and http://westfield-world.com/alternativeparts.html are good places to start with. However, most autofactors will have things you need if you can correctly identify them or take the orignal item with you. Also, a pic or two and a description in the Tech Area of the forum will probably get you a list of potential other sources.

  3. Welcome back, Pete. My drives through France are often spoiled by a large white box very close in my rear view mirror! One day I'll get away without it

  4. Spoke with a VX enthusiast in the car park at the airshow. He stated that the redtops were prone to oil leaks and you'll be lucky to completely stop it on every occasion. Suggests a bonded gasket from a 2.0ltr 8V and shorter screws. I suggest a zetec! ;-)

  5. Always read the small print, hardly anybody covers glass... but ... if it's lobbed over a gate, the parcel didn't turn up, right? Claim for a lost item rather than damaged glass which won't be covered. No signature = no delivery. If you're going to do it on the cheap and post glass with the cheapest quote you find, ignore the small print, not pay the insurance and not pay the 85p for a signature, sorry, but you get what deserve really. You really think they take any notice of a 'Fragile' label? That label isn't worth the sticky paper it's written on I'm afraid, these value companies are all about high volume, low price shipments of peoples' ebay tat.

  6. Good on you, get the old girl back on the road and you'll soon be smiling again. It is disheartening when people try and knock you down on price, and they always have their reasons for shaving money off. But something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and they have the upper hand in a negotiation because they have the money and can walk away. I'm in a similar situation selling my entire worldly possessions (apart from the car) to move out of the country. Although my mountain bike brakes cost me £500, they don't add £500 to the value of the bike to the guy buying it, they are just brakes to the buyer, they may be the most powerful on the market at the moment but all bikes (and cars) come with brakes and mine are nothing special to the buyer.

  7. I blame it on all the reality stuff on TV these days, (and I admit, I'm hooked on some of the guff too); everyone thinks they can go in rip what you're selling to shreds, make an insultingly low offer and "bid" you down. Trust me, it's often no better selling a high spec car or component. I have no problem with anyone wanting to negotiate or do a bit of a deal, but you've got to know where to put your opening offer. Or I, (and many others) am just going to laugh at you and call you a dangler. Likewise, doing the heavy slag off bit, isn't going to make many sellers think "Oh dear, I seam to be mistaken, I'm actually selling a lemon rather than the pride and joy I've lavished thousands of pounds and untold hours of work on, that I thought I was selling", it's just going to put the sellers back up and make them defensive. Still, some good has come out of it, you're keeping the car. That's great news!

  8. Euro car parts staff are particularly gormless and irritable I still enjoy it when they insist on a reg number then tell me the system doesnt recognise it,ask what car it is then look blank when you tell them Go when theyre busy for best results

  9. Many Thanks So the basic process is... Find autofactor Befriend autofactor Test autotactors patience to breaking point with repeated "have you got one of these" requests

  10. Just to clarify... It was me who did the referring. A guest asked that his details be passed on to Playo, which I did - sorry it was a waste of time but glad you're keeping the car.

  12. Another fantastic day, little over cast and cooler for the 150 miles down to Reims. Some amazing farm roads through the vine yards, had a lovely play with a masarati through a great forest road. All finished with a blast around the old gp curcuit and lots of photos outside the pit complex. Couldnt resist another lap with a full bore second gear start past the pits. Heading home tomorrow, but having a great time. Off for a beer in the town .
