  1. Doug - far be it from me to correct you...especially when you are correct. We've added 10 new members in the last week - if only every week was so good! Although there was some understandable scepticism to the switch to member only posting in December, as the minutes of the last committee meeting show, the numbers certainly support the decision (so far). I think the fact that newbies get 30 days / 20 posts for free to see if the club is for them before paying has been very helpful in that respect, as has the members having been so welcoming to everyone, so pat yourselves on the back too. I'm really looking forward to Stoneleigh and meeting as many members as possible - if my avatar doesn't put everyone off!

  2. Given the recent news surrounding this horse meat kerfuffle I thought it best to check on my horses. M444444444TTB was already dropping his Westfield off at BTec racing for his carbs to be rebuilt and The Stoat was getting a go on the rollers to check his air fuel ratio - it only seemed natural to tag along. Since I've built it I've not been massively impressed with the speed of my Westfield. After wrapping up like the Michelin man I met with the above Swindonites and we convoy'd off. It was a bit foggy made worse with it condensating on the windscreen. Curse my decision not to bother with the intermittent setting for the wipers! Still we arrived there safe and sound and Stu put his loud and proud VX effort on first. That's a really impressive engine that just doesn't stop making power. And then it was time for my much more sedate version. Two runs were done, one with the AFR probe in and one without. Interestingly it made slightly more torque with the probe in but with figures that small and close I don't think you could confidently say that my car runs better with an ever so slightly more restricted exhaust! Standard MX5 power is 133, so only one of mine has become lasagne. That's not bad, and a shame really. I was all set to replace the engine to save fixing the coolant leak but as it's giving good power I don't think I should write it off, even after 144,000 miles! So at some point, assuming I ever get around to it I've got to pull the engine and get the block skimmed. A Westfield manifold will make an appearance some time soon and I'm tempted to fit an induction kit to replace the standard air box. It'd be interesting to see what kind of difference that makes.

  6. Thank you everybody for your nice welcome ! Alexander english is my second language too, but don't laugh to loud please... The Somme ? You mean this part of France close to the north pole, I'd rather go to canada floating across on maple leaves ?;-) It could be a great idea, Alexander. Andy (and the other) to get yourselves across the channel we could think later about a meeting in Auvergne visit nice places... Mountains and very nice roads Norman, I told my wife about a trip to Angers with Westy, she enjoys as she made her studies at this place (Ecole de Commerce ESSCA) after she went to Goteborg(Sweden) for studies (Erasmus european for students) so it's a good news, her english is best than mine... We both like Angers and Loire Valley. guest thank you for your answer and pics. I understand the press("male" one) in the middle of the windscreen , but what I suppose to do with the "channel" (the black plastic part) Do I put a press to ? (female one) Very goog tip your neodymium magnets. swap for the pound? After many thoughts, I will keep vineyards...and other assets ;-) Now let's talk about my very first "road test" !!! In few words I must admit it was too much for an rookie. I had a lot of new things to deal with :RHD, very light a short car, a lot of power, cold road.... I was very smooth with the throtle, I didn't want to: I was scared by the turn signal noise, I found it was the klaxon first ! A real newbie sorry sirs. C20XE + Weber 45 = Bomb ! I felt the 181 hp WHAOWWWWWWWWWWW !!! I realised that I have a long way to learn how to drive (and longer to pilot it) my Westy, Power/weight ratio is about 3,3 kgs for 1 HP oups ! I told my wife it's a motorcycle with 4 wheels...

  10. You are so flattering, thankyou. Welcome Gatouille, Leave the the roof channel as it is, then it it easily folded up when not on the car. Careful with the 181bhp especially on the road when it is cold and wet, being a light car you need heat in the tyres to give grip. I have the same engine as you on Dellorto carbs and slowly adding tuning parts to make it go a bit faster. Hope we will see some French trackday video and photos soon.
