  1. Why do we join, take part, wish to be associated with a car forum? I have asked myself the above question a good few times, having waited most of my life before being able to afford my Toy.. My westfield, then realizing that there was actually an organization built around like minded individuals who shared my passion for our crazy little machines. Having checked out the forum just once I decided that joining was a no brainer, just one trip to the search facility was worth membership, and I have visited that jem many times. I live in Alberta -Canada and as such don't enjoy the local club get togethers or the give me a call and we can figure out what to do info chain available on a local level that you have in the UK. I know of only one other Westfield in Alberta. There are of course other 7,s, Birkin, caterham, locost and stalker the owners of those cars are all great guys, and there cars good machines but it would be good to be able to talk brand specific:-). Reading the forum provides me with many moments where I must appear quite mental to my long suffering wife as I take in the humour and sarcasm dished out in a way that only the Brits have mastered and have the ability to endure. I am an ex pat, born and raised in Oldham.and as such understand and appreciate the banter.. Thank you all for the laughter.. You know who you are.. So, why do we Join? More to the point, why did I join, to be part of a way of life, that's what these crazy machines become, of course there is that exhilaration that driving a Westy gives us, that stupid grin...seeing that look on so many faces that says " I wish I had your car" the never ending upgrades, this is more than a hobby, more than a toy, this car makes me so much younger every time I strap myself in the cockpit. The club, the forum, is a part of all that. To all the long time members who share their knowledge with we less informed, I thank you. To all those who keep the club running, I thank you also. Checking in on the goings on of the club and its members has become part of my daily routine. From this side of the pond. Cheers.

  3. Seen the thread about weight saving? Think you might give some of the obsessives a heat attack with that.

  4. not according to the AAIB report, helicopters and reckless flying don't go together, chucking a car about is one thing, doing it in a helicopter close to the ground with passengers is another... I admired his driving skills and think It's a shame that his memory will always be tainted with the sad ending for all four involved.

  5. Supplementary moan... Dear Apple: Stop trying to update my iTunes software with a full new version every single stupid time you make a minor change. I keep getting nagged every time I turn my computer on to update from 11.0.0 to 11.0.1, which would take 30 minutes to do and then I'd have to go in to Quick Startup and disable half a dozen idiotic background Apple and Quicktime (ha!) programs from automatically running in the background and slowing my computer down. STOP IT. Thanks.

  9. Fantastic. Instructions for me too please, it looks harder than building the real thing. Despite owning a red car, I've got to admit, that's a nice shade of green. John.

  10. Id love a copy of the instructions too. GF would much rather I built a lego Westy once I've completed the real thing, rather than starting another whole car!!!

  11. giggity giggity Steve your post is exactly what i like about this club, and rest assured, when my time comes to finally be able to afford a westy, I will be joining up straight away to ask a million daft questions and get told a million and one times to use the search bar to me there is not much more that appeals than joining fellow car enthusiasts and just going for a drive for the sake of driving

  12. I wonder if the nay sayers here would give an honest answer to a few simple questions? If it was 20 years ago and this was a sports club, or a working mans club or stamp collectors club or a photography club would you pay a sub to be a member because it's your hobby and you like to gather with likeminded people and have a chat? I'm guessing yes. Would you expect it to be run responsibly, indemnifying you against losses suffered by the club? Yup... And would you want the organsers to take the time to impart information by way of printed or faxed media when there was information to be imparted, to keep members up to date with club goings on in some easy to assimilate manner? Again, I'm guessing yes. Would you like to participate in club events at venues hired by the club and for a nominal (probably cost) price without worrying about the organiser profiteering? I'm thinking yes. Would you like to buy gifts, souveniers, shirts, hats key rings, stickers etc to show your allegiance and/or your support? I'll stick my neck out and say yes again. ==================================================== Roll forwards 20 years. This is that club. We just happen to have a web site that is partially available to anyone walking in, something that would not be available FOREVER to anyone wanting to take advantage of clubs in days of yore. You'd be EXPECTED to cough up if you kept on turning up, and you'd have to deal with someone face to face and explain why you think you should be exempt from the (quite ridiculously reasonable) subscription. If you didn't pay, you'd not be made welcome for very long. In fact you'd probably be told to jog on in no uncertain terms. Well guess what? This is a CLUB just like those. It just happens to have a bulletin board on the web that allows non members to register a complaint that they can't get it all for free. Name one place where you CAN get it all for free. And by all, I mean a magazine, AO's and their support, events, venue hire, indemnity insurance and all the other things that the WSCC supply and pay for with Monopoly money, 'cos apparently it's all free on the internet... If you want to be part of it, pay up. If you don't want to be part of it, fair enough you are free to seek satisfaction elsewhere. But remember, there is not one single club or organisation anywhere in the world that would allow an "outsider" to have a say in how it's rules are formed or implemented. I mean really, is there any more ridiculous a suggestion? If I was to log on to [insert bulletin board name here] and tell them it was all rubbish and they should do it in a way that suits me best, just how welcome would I be made to feel? It's not difficult to think that one through, is it?
