  2. Agree with bits of all of the above, I know moaners who had no work 7 years ago when it was easy to get that really just cant be arsed, I also know chancers who are basically rubbish and shouldnt be in the game, plus theres those who expect to turn up and just talk, smoke, text, choose a horse and drink tea! All of the above when things get tight will get pushed to one side pretty quick! As has been said people will always need things fixing and making good and if you do a good honest reliable job I see no reason why a good/motivated tradesman shouldn't get work, even if its not at top prices... I only had 3 days booked in for this year at Christmas and once Jan came I did start to wonder what was coming for the first time in a year or 2, BUT things picked up pretty quickly (thankfully as I found my car in Jan!) Im fairly happy again now, plenty on, even if its bity, I had a mega year last year and had just forgotten about working week to week but Ive done it plenty before and it doesnt worry me anymore. Im lucky enough to have not advertised for 6 years or more, as someone wisely said, your as good as your last job, so do it well. I find Im doing 2-4 jobs a day to make it pay now rather than making a killing anywhere... I know genuine employed guys who are or have struggled and I feel for them all, I also know genuine small businesses struggling to pay wages! Getting paid seems to be more of a struggle than ever for most, I know a builder who walked away from £2.5k last week because the contractor just didnt have it to give him! I spoke to a painter yesterday whos been self employed for 25 years who said hed wrap it up tomorrow for a £350 a week job! I wish I could walk into Tesco fill my trolley and say Ill pay you in 90 days! Fuel, material costs and depressive media talk pushing prices down are a huge problem too but all we can do is a good job for a fair price and wait for things to swing back in our favour while we enjoy our little plastic cars! 3. sounds like there is nowt wrong with the car - just that you bought the wrong car (I know the feeling but have enjoyed changing the car over the 4 years of ownership) with your location being the main issue I would sell and either buy a quicker westy or the caterham you will be looking at 5k ish to get the sort of power I reckon you want - and then you would be stuck with the gearbox that would be letting the rest of the car down

  5. It wont help, I had areo on my standard westy D . I know exactly what Alex is getting at about the standard car, I even nicknamed mine when I had it" the slug" I was that uninspired by it if you jumped out of a westy into a R400d you would swear it had double the power , Its the way the Caterham feels i just feels alive and raring to go but in reality there prob isnt a massive difference in straightline speed but the difference in grin factor is unreal also food for thought how about supercharging the standard motor, my old slug now runs an SC and its very fast think its running 240-250 bhp its used on track most of the time and so far it has been reliable !! Do a search on here for Steve h he has some videos so you can see how well it goes! and speak to Playskool they can supply you the conversion :t-up:

  6. Ive considered the Atom thing a few times but never bothered fugly cars and although quick in a straight line they are not the best in corners , Ive had a standard duratec like yours and 3 duratec Caterhams, currently own an R400d and to me its about as good as it gets in 7 ownership not ballistic quick but quick enough to keep me entertained, if you are happy with the car other than its grunt I would stick the car on a boat and get the motor fettled and if it has standard mct75 box still fitted I would stick a gearbox in it too! my car is 212bhp and combined with a 6 speed gearbox it is plenty quick enough but i suspect its prob more to do with the gearing than the power .

  7. You are right David, but we will see how the entries go and as I said in my email to competitors, I will sort out the classes based on thier Speed Series Class, we may seperate or amalgamate them to make it all make as much sense as posisble. But there are now so many different classes around at events, it's getting a bit ridiculous. Competitors always seem to have a good reason for an extra class

  8. Compared to say, smokers, road users have been treated with contempt by successive governments Tobacco Net Net Revenue Tobacco Users Pack of 20 Sales Tax Revenue Fraction Sales Net % Tax Hike 1997 £2.42 84bn £9.8bn 0.1167 2011 £6.63 58.5bn £10.5bn 0.1795 153.8% Road User Net Net Revenue Road Users Litre Unleaded Sales Tax Revenue Fraction Sales Net % Tax Hike 1997 £0.61 29.5bn £11bn 0.3729 2011 £1.31 23.2bn £33.6bn 1.4485 388.4% Road users have seen their net tax payments rise 3.8 times compared to smokers 1.5 times Yes that's right, UK governments have raised tax on road users by more 380% in 14 years If any other tax had been raised by the same punitive amount, at worst there would have been a change of government, at best the mutilated bodies of politicians would litter Westminster Why have we let them get away with it?

  9. After almost exactly 4 years to the day from when I picked up the starter kit, I finally got the car on the road. Thanks to all who helped me, especially the guys over on the FM Westfield forum, Mark for countless pictures on his site and posts on how to fill in forms and Dean for keeping pestering me to update my blog and get it finished. I'm convinced the wettest April on record is purely down the timing of when I finished it. Done over 200 miles dodging in and out of the showers and it's amazing. Graham

  10. I can see an inevitable outcome - operator goes bust, government steps in and buys the road using tax money at an over-valued price, also operates it at a loss due to equally stupid management, ends up selling road a few years later to same operator with same idiots but under a different name for 1p, and the circle of stupid is complete. Or am I just being a cynic again?

  11. No Scott, its not just you!! I could never understand their logic. The answer has always been to increase the prices. Have they never heard of the law of diminishing returns?? I particularly love the signs above the M6, as you approach the M6 toll, advertising that the "M6 TOLL CLEAR" in a desperate attempt to get you to use it. If they brought the prices down more people might actually use it.

  12. Dean, that's a fair comment and I agree entirely. There was a very comprehensive list of all the errors and omissions that were in the manual and the parts pick list over on the Westfieldmiata forum, but that resource now appears to have closed down? To keep this thread on topic I shall start another tread in the future where we can collate all our comments on this in one place as I think a list of comments/ errors etc in the manual would be very useful to others and just maybe we can also influence some chage for the better

  16. Westfield Race/Trackday Car (2001) £5,500 ONO Hi For sale is Westfield racecar built for the 2001 Westfield Sportscar Series. The basic details of the car are as follows: 2001 SEW built for Westfield Sportscar series Lightweight race chassis and body in black Live axle with rear disc conversion 1800 Zetec twin 40's New Titan dry sump Quaife four speed rocket box AVO shocks All suspension rose jointed Terry Nightingale ARB's 13" Minilites Avon acb10's MSA approved roll bar I have a folder full of receipts of the original build. The guy who built the car did a fantastic job he built it for his business partner to race it but after the first race at Donington the guy basically bottled it and said he didn't want to race it anymore so it sat in his garage for the next 3 years! I've only done literally a couple of track days and three sprints in it so it's still pretty mint for a race car the only damage is a small crack in the tub at the rear that could be fixed easily. The car could easily be entered in the speed series or in any kitcar series such as the 750mc or maginificent 7's or could be converted to road use. If anyone needs anymore detailed pics or more info on the car let me know. many thanks Paul
