  1. I would personally prefer to have my own opinion rather than be force fed what you or you feel others are thinking

  6. There are a couple of us building 1.8 Mazda engined SDV's at present, with some build threads running:- http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/89450-donor-done-build-started/ http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/90534-kugawesties-build-thread/

  7. As I and others have mentioned in previous posts, most believe the membership fee to be well worth it for a variety of reasons - there really is no argument there - and all the stuff about what should and should not be standard options in the boardroom is open to debate, but at the end of the day is the "WSCC collectives" decision, cannot argue with that! but surely as members we have a vested interest in encouraging people to join by extolling the virtues of the club rather than being, umm, shall we say "blunt or aggressive" - if they decide not to listen, then that is their decision and can continue to user the forums as is, or decide to spend their time elsewhere I really just don't see how 'going on the attack' encourages people to join our club - do we not want to be seen as a pleasant community of like minded individuals with a common interest that people will gravitate towards? Just an opinion of a bleating mong from Peterborough

  8. Hi, Dave, Welcome to the Boardroom. Built my 1.6 MX5 SDV last year and got it on the road last October so it's all reasonably fresh in my mind! You'll find lots of help here - and I stand ready to help when you need it. Here's a premonition from 'Psychic Mooch". When you get your completion kit, you will be missing the 65mm bolt for the brake switch T piece, the right length 7/16 bolts for the diff bracket and the spacers for the diff buffer cups and/or said diff bracket - if this means nothing at the moment, it will. It's an odd rite of passage that just about all your Mazda SDV predecessors have had to go through. Oh...and ignore what the build manual says about using the donor side repeaters (they are not IVA compliant) ask for cycle wing repeaters to be included with your kit. My guess is the manual has not yet been updated. If in doubt, do a search or post a question Are you using the 'curvy' donor dash pod or going for the GuruSmokeyMow 'flat' option? If it's the curvy option, I can give a few tips when you're getting close. I look forward to regular updates on progress - Have fun! Mike

  9. Welcome Dave and good luck with the build. I can't think of any MX5 westfield's close to you off hand but you'll find plenty of help, advice and former builders such as myself on here and willing to steer you in the right direction.

  10. you dont have to read it ,no one's forcing you to ,just dont read it then start bleating about it ,everyone one has there own opinions i choose to voice mine its up to you and others weather you and they agree or not i couldnt give a flying chuff either way im not out to win freinds ,i have plenty of them , at least i speak my mind and if you dont like it its not my problem , i would rather stand up for what i believe than say nowt weather it upsets people or not , i have been a wscc member since 1997 i think from memory and a proud member ,when someone pops up who is not a member starts critisising the club forum because they cant get summat for free then i will say what i believe is right

  11. I use mountain biking gloves for the road; I've got a set of lighter weight wind proof jobs for summer/autumn cooler days and a pair of heavier water/wind proof winter jobs. I've probably had four or five years out of the lighter weight ones, but they are starting to wear through in places now. (The heavy weight are new this winter, so too soon to tell yet!) I've got a pair of the cheaper Sparco race gloves that are about five years old now, but have only had light use. Still going strong though!

  12. But is the 14 hours just for the engine labour or gearbox refurb also? Time will depend upon the engine / chassis etc It was 5 hours to take the engine and gearbox out of my Sport 2000s. And that was excluding the hour it took to separate a seized exhaust joint at the bottom of the header. On the sport chassis lots of other parts need removing such as ARB, dry sump tank, alternator ... Basically the whole front needs stripping away.

  13. Ok, before this thread gets locked I have one more (hopefully relevant!) point that noone's mentioned yet. And before you all flame me to death, I am a fully paid up member, but due to my own technological failings didn't register it on the old forum and now can't afford to top up my membership to 12 months (I know it's only £12.50, but I really am that poor atm ) Anyway! When I first found the forum, the wealth of knowledge in all the threads from years gone by answered nearly every question I had about Westies. I spent days and days reading through old threads, learning about the cars, the different engines and whole hosts of mods and improvements you guys have been making. I found it absolutely fascinating and It certainly influenced me in my eventual Westie purchase. But none of this is possible on the new forum because non-registered members can't use the search function!!! Recently I've found it really debilitating not being able to find old threads (especially since all the old links are broken) and think that this really will put off new members from joining. If prospective Westie buyers can't do a bit of research on the internet's best Westfield resource, then it's going to put them off joining the club and may well put them off buying a Westfield altogether. And I know that the forum is only a small part of the club (and hopefully I'll be able to join you guys one some of the blats and events this year!) but arguably it's one of the most public fronts of the club and making it as accessible as possible to prospective members can only be beneficial.
