jacko9370 Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Done that, entered pass code, but the wifi symbol will not appear on the phone despite it saying in settings it's connected. I can make it work using my android tablet but want the iPhone to work it
AdamR Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Just had a quick search around - nobody here at work has an iPhone so can't check for sure, but the general consensus is to remove the battery from the camera for a few minutes to let the camera completely discharge / reset, then pop it back in, restart the pairing process and it should work! I also found the below video, I'm not familiar with the iPhone at all but the comments seem to suggest it's very thorough and covers a few small steps the GoPro instructions don't cover: If you have no joy with those, please let me know and I'll keep digging
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Hi Adam Camera arrived very quickly - thank you for the great service Had a few hours messing around getting updates installed and the remote/app to work but all went pretty well But now it is all done it is great / just need the roads to dry out so I can go play By the way if anyone else is looking at getting one I would heartily recommend having a looking on YouTube at the multitude of tutorials on how to setup the camera Will save you quite a bit of time Thanks again Adam
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 So what resolution you guys finds works best for track/road work I was gonna try 1080p at 30fps on wide angle first off Camera is mounted on the diagonal bar of the roll cage shooting in between the seats - thinking aloud with the 4 second delay on live cam preview I can probably lift myself out quick enough to have a look ;-)
Oily Steve Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I have received my GoPro silver, thanks again to Adam. I think I had read somewhere that 720 at 60 fps was a good one to try but this only seems to allow the wide angle setting and I'm not sure if this is too wide. I am happy to experiment but would also be grateful for any advice.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 In a car (or bike) with plenty of vibration 60 fps is sooo much better, will really cut down on the awful rolling shutter "gello" effect that plagues so much of the footage you see. on my GoPro 2, after experimenting to see if the consistent advice I'd previously got to use 720/60 for in-car stuff was true, I did indeed end up using that all the time. (And still do!) The main reason I went for the Black in Adams bulk buy is so that I can shoot at 1080/60, (although the 2 does 1080/30, I find 720/60 looks better cause of the higher frame rate). the angle thing is what it is, that's just how they're designed; while they do offer "narrow" and "medium" angles of view in certain resolutions, the camera doesn't have a zoom lens, all your doing is using a smaller area of the sensor, which in effect means lower resolution still. I've just bought myself a Canon EOS/M still/video camera so that I can do the arty video shots with different length lenses! (It gets addictive) though the Canon most likely won't get used actually on the car.
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 thanks Dave so you are saying that the 3 is going to handle the higher resolution (1080 compared to 720) at 60fps better than the previous model it's ruddy dnowing outside at the moment - the gopro will not be heading out today
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 this was with the nikon - but I did a similar thing later with the gopro http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=577125405644768&set=vb.100000419413756&type=2&theater
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Can't view that from the iPad, I'll have a shufty from the LC later! Yes, the Black will do higher frame rates in higher resolutions than the 2. So with the 2 you can do 720/60/30 but 1080/30 only. Whereas on the Black, you have 720/120/60/30 and 1080/60/30 (I'm ignoring the 2K/4K stuff, it's not really practically usable that much). it'll also be interesting to try the 720/120 fps setting for some "high speed" footage I can process as slow motion - but Ive not tried that yet
Howsafe Workwear and Safety Equipment Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 mmm just looking on my gopro phone app - and it only shows 48 and 50 as the frame rate options when in 1080p mode will cycle through the settings on the gopro when I get back
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 The settings vary slightly depending if the camera is set to PAL or NTSC. This setting is only relevant if you wish to use the HDMI output socket to plug directly into a TV. (And only then, if the TV can't convert between PAL/NTSC). I never hook mine up that way, so always leave the camera on NTSC. (you do the final PAL/NTSC conversion on the PC/Mac as part of the editing/prepping for viewing workflow)
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 ahh I did set it to PAL as I thought I may well have a look through the TV at some point seems like you are our resident expert on all things GoPro Dave 1
AdamR Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Sorry for taking a while to reply to this - trackday Saturday and Monther's day rinsed my weekend! Thanks for the 'support' Dave, you put it better than I could have That time lapse video was cool Cleggy, makes me want to get my Lego out, haha! I had been shooting in 720 / 60 / Wide but as you said, it does look a touch toooo wide I think. This weekend I used 1080 / 30 / Medium and I think I prefer the field of vision (see below), but the footage does look nicer in 60 frames (especially as the software I use 'blends' the frames for smoother viewing). I'll probably try 1080 / 60 / Medium next time, but I like the fact I can get twice as much footage on the car with the 30fps setting! Managed to shoot about 25 gig on Saturday due to a very quiet track...
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Can't beat optical zooms/primes when it comes to changing between wide, narrow angle etc. I picked up a show deal at Focus on Imaging last week on a little Canon EOS/M (a sort of hybrid between an SLR and a compact), which will do video, all be it at only 1080/30, but i can use, thanks to an adaptor, my normal canon lenses on it. I may or may not try it "on-car", but wanted something I could set up on a tripod etc to film the car going by and from the outside IYSWIM, which GoPro's aren't necessarily so good at. It also means I now appear to have a video camera with a 640mm lens (effectively) should it ever be needed, is that a narrow enough viewing angle?
