Here is video of Mr Ker himself - happily showing him overtaking on the left and blasting it on the in lap/cool down lap...

Enjoyed that. :) It's a shame he let himself down with all his stupid antics on the day. Can't help thinking the video has a whiff of a wind up about it. ???

It's about time we had some Irrotational footage up, you must have some good stuff. :)

I've finally won the battle against BT broadband and youtube and managed to upload the videos! I'm afraid theres a splodge and a bug in the middle of the camera but hopefully you can see whats going on...the rattly noise is the stones rolling around in the passenger footwell where the Mike is...

Laslty the sound cuts in and out for the first couple of minutes but after tha its fine so just bear with it...

Morning session highlights:-

1st session - just getting back into it and following the R400 (from middlesborough) and the orange car with the siny red LEDS (apologies i spoke to you both but cant remember names) The car is over-sterry as the right rear tyre is *******ged I move that to the front right for later sessions and understeer instead

2nd session (6 min 55) - Following a yellow car with white round circle on the back - then at 8.10 both of us encounter a spinning Chip!!

At 11 minutes I come up behind glasgow and get slightly closer than I meant to at the hairpin! sorry for that!

3rd session(12 min 45) - we set off for the fastest green flag lap of the day behind the R400 and orange/LEd car! I keep up with them due to traffic, but they just dissappear on the straights!

On the final lap I think I manage a 1.02 which matches the quickest i have managed to get round so far...i think my car could get under a minute and if/when I manage that I will consider myself able to drive!

Afternoon session:-

Follow Chip through a few corners then head off.

1 min 15 - The dayglo caterham catches me fast with the white/blue MK indy right behind it - both of them go through fine, only for Mr Indy to get over-excited on the brakes at mcIntyres and spin into the grass.

9 mins 30 - i think glasgow makes a brief appearance after stopping for a picnic on the infield :-)

The second session I am completely blocked - at 13 mins in you can see how much I gain on him then have to back off

Enjoyed those vids, it was worth the wait. What's the spec of the car? I'm guessing K series, with a five speed box? :t-up:

well well Andrew, nice to see the spin from your angle, looks quite scary actually, you did well to go around me! Funny when you are behind in the afternoon session, me going round corners looks sooooo slow! zzzz

Andrew - Enjoyed your vids. I'm surprised you were as benevolent toward the MK idiot back in the paddock, I wasn't!

I'm glad my stripey Westie was able to keep up with you on the straight (at about 2 mins in the afternoon session) - although it was just briefly until we got into the corners.

Thanks all!

Chip - I'm afraid it was luck! :d:oops: the chap in front went left and i had a split second so just followed him out of instinct. As for the afternoon - i think you were actually going ok, You just need to work on the lines and make the apex's...tyres make a big difference too - the 48's I'm on are pretty sticky.

Andrew - its a 1.6k at "supersport" spec which was an optimistic 138hp when new (15 years ago!!). It's a 6 speed box but I normally only drop to 3rd in the hairpin (i think!) - 2nd is still a bit too short and you just spin the wheels, 3rd is a bit easier to modulate the power...not that I have loads but the back end always seems to go at the hairpin!

The MK chap said his car was 170hp but i'm not convinced as he wasn't pulling away from me that quickly...

I wouldn't have been so polite to him if I knew about the other antics...like I say, out of the car he just seemed quite quiet and mumbly so I just started chatting.

i am very very tempted to post a reply to his video and refer him to mine...and this thread...

Out of curiosity what engine / bhp did each kit have?

Some were very fast on the straights and some extremely fast thru the corners.

Just wondering on all the kits that whizzed by me (think just about everyone on track did this) ...

Was it the extra power or driving skills.

I'm sure you will all claim skills but would like to know the engine specs .....

Mine is standard 2lt Zetec on bike carbs running with Megajolt system.

Cheers

Jim

The busa engine is about 165-170bhp, but as andrew said earlier, a lot of it is about gearing....other factors like setup and brakes make a big difference also.....and then there's the driver ;)

Indeed, gearing is one of the most overlooked aspects.

But like Greig said, then there's the driver; don't underestimate how much of a difference carrying speed through the bends and getting the exit right on to the next straight will influence the speed down the straight.

There have been posts on here before about "ideal" power for Knockhill. I replied that it is not just the power, but as above, driver skill and the ability to carry speed through the corners. This is where the nerves and ability to monster the apexes (spelling?) becomes so important - as this straightens the corner. Watch the BTCC cars - they don't give a monkeys about the height of the kerbs! if the car is straight they are on the power.

Then their is driver ability ! The confidence to control over or under steer gives you the ability to "set up" for a corner (I can do it in Go-Karts but still learining in the V8!) and therefore still more speed through the corner.

Finally - POWER ! Yes it helps on the straights but with 300bhp (or 415 per ton) in mine I have to feather the pedal coming out of corners or I lose traction - hence I lose speed - especially as the V8 is nose heavier than the rest. Lots of debate here and as I openly confess to having a car that will always be quicker than me ( ie I'm not as good as the car!) there are far better qualified people that can comment.

I reckon a car that weighs about 500K and has 180-200bhp would be pretty much perfect !? (Just wait... I can hear the Caterham guys typing... !)

you would have thought torque would be a must at knockhill with the gradient but I couldnt get near the becs (which have very little) out of the bottom corner and up the hill (till i got to the top anyway then i came back) which had to be gearing and my car has a good close ratio box and 168lbs ft torque / 212bhp so its no slouch as can be seen on arrotationals last video at 14.45 when I eventually pass Mr Kerr I lamp away up the hill

1st session - just getting back into it and following the R400 (from middlesborough)

reckon that must be me although not from boro  but from the north east :d:t-up:

An apology from the MK driver:

After he posted his video on You Tube, I sent him a comment ripping into him about his overtaking on the right/on slowdown & warm up laps etc and let him know he had p1ssed off the rest of us on track. Fair play to him, he was at least man enough to reply offering an explanation & apology as pasted below. Lesson learned for him, it would appear he's not all bad after all.

"I am extremely sorry and i now know just how wrong i was. I profusely appologise for my misunderstanding of trackday etiquette. That was my first time and althouth that was no excuse i promise you i had no idea about either of my wrong doings. I was late arriving and missed the breifing. Again if you see me again. Please introduce yourself that i may appologise in person. I had no intention to offend anybody. Just to drive my car as fast as i could safely. Am more than happy to appologise to anyone affected or put off enjoying their day by any infringment of mine. Ignorent is exactly right i see that now. Yer i deserve a rolocking for that. Most embarassing.

Yours sincerely

Andrew."

After watching his vid, I suspected he'd not had a briefing. That's really a problem for the circuit, it did seem a bit random whether you went through the briefing room or out to the paddock after signing on. ???

My car is (or was, it's now broken. :( ) a 2.1 Pinto, 170bhp with a type nine box. Was allways going to get a pasting up the hill against the BECs, and six speeders.

Dean - thanks for posting his comments. As you say, it puts a different perspective on things and he seems genuine in his response.

Cheers, Matt
