bhouse
regulators are perfectly within their rights to bust you for doing, say 32 in a 30 if they so wish. Too true. A few years ago here in rural Essex the paper carried a report of a woman being fined as a result of being clocked and stopped by a Police operated roadside camera. Apparently when they told here she had been clocked at 32 mph she said that it wasn't her fault as her car would not go any slower than that in 5th gear... windy
There are Emergency Refuge Area's every 8-900 metres (the things that look like lay-by's). There will also be literally hundred's of camera's monitoring the traffic and loops in the road. There's a lot more technology involved than what you may think. A sign displaying a lane closed and a camera watching isn't going to stop a half asleep trucker who is already in that lane from carrying on and ploughing into the back of someone who has broken down is it? People are already accustomed to ignoring illuminated signs anyway. 90% of the time in my experience they are on for no reason. Perhaps it is because the person paid to monitor the traffic has fallen asleep as well. Also I've yet to understand how someone is going to be able to roll their car up a hill into a refuge area. It defies the laws of gravity if your engine has died.
Stuart
Have you noticed the ones in roadworks where the speed limit changes part way between 2 average speed cameras. I've seen a few like that and there's one at the bottom of the M6 now. So do you think they've measured all the distances and averaged the averages? The cynic in me thinks it's just to catch people out - it nearly did me the first time ended up crawling the last bit before the next camera. Safe that, innit?
