pete g
i always try to stick to the speed limit through roadworks because i know it can be a dangerous place for workers. but what gets on my nerves is they cant be bothered to remove the road signs when they are not working in the area.and you cant work out if what speed limit it should be. windy
I’ve been working (well managing from the office) on the stretch of the M1 between junction 10 and 13 for the last 2.5 years, In the time its taken to underpin the hard shoulder and re-surface this stretch of motorway the French built 200 miles of autoroute from scratch with toll booths and bridges to Le Mans and had 3 years to spare afterwards. Before the M1 widening the best part of a year was spent building a fence past Luton only to take it down again a few months later for the widening. In this time there was also a 50 limit on the road. What a waste of taxpayers money! I know whats happening because I use this stretch of motorway twice per day and it is sickening to have to put up with it. What is even more annoying is that I won't be able to get back up to normal speed when its finished because the gantries will have speed cameras on them. I am also very concerned that there will be 4 lanes with no hard shoulder. I foresee there are going to be some horrendous accidents with sleepy truckers running into the back of broken down vehicles when it is all opened up. So in summary get on with it and get it finished If I can get back to getting up later for work and getting home earlier to get on with building the rally car I'll be happy. XTR2Turbo
If you're not careful Graham will have finished his car before you finish widening the bl**** M1 --- the race is on !! :d
windy
Widening the M1 will never be finished. In 2 years time they'll be knocking down the bridges they should have got rid of this time (because its not wide enough) and do it all over again.

windy
Ah so that's why you are stringing it out.
Simeon
Well there's no m8 here. Iv'e just done the speed awareness course for doing an average 58mph in the roadworks section of M25 in between the A1 and M1. This was at 11pm on a Sunday night where there was absolutely no one working.
langy
I am also very concerned that there will be 4 lanes with no hard shoulder. There are Emergency Refuge Area's every 8-900 metres (the things that look like lay-by's). There will also be literally hundred's of camera's monitoring the traffic and loops in the road. There's a lot more technology involved than what you may think.
Stuart
There generally is some leeway and it's possibly 10% + 2 most times, but regulators are perfectly within their rights to bust you for doing, say 32 in a 30 if they so wish. And that does happen sometimes. So I never risk it - set the GPS to 50 or perhaps 51 if I'm being harassed.
V8grunt
I have a mate (?) who tends to drive over the speed limit then tucks in behind a lorry when he see,s the camara! He's never been caught. Jocking aside, What annoys me is the 50MPH limit at 10 O clock at night on a deserted M42 around Birmingham, there for no apparent reason apart from the fact the guy forgot to turn them off before he finished his shift. :A***:
pistonbroke
In general I always follow the flow so whatever speed the traffic around me is doing , that's me . What I do think really uneccesary is having the same average speed cams operating at night or at w/e when we can often drive through miles and miles of 40mph speed restricted road and there is absolutely no sign of any work force in attendance
Bananaman
Work colleague got a fine and points doing 44.1 mph in a 40 average speed zone on M6 Thelwall roadworks a few years ago. I am not sure the +10% +2 mph rule applies universally. My Dad went on speed awareness course last year and i'm sure he said that it was 5% + 2mph but i guess in theory they could do you for 51 in a 50?
