pistonbroke Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Is the Mondano souped up what sort of insurance cover are you buying ? fully comp business use annual mileage no claims protection breakdown recovery legal aid other driver/s voluntary / compusory excess ? They can make big differences to final tally Quote
Bananaman Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Just for fun, do another comparison site search using a fictitious name but with a better postcode, like the back end of nowhere in scenic Cornwall or such. I'm betting that's the kicker in here if your local crime rates have gone up. My postcode ain't great (M20) but nothing has changed since last year! Did a few variations on the cover and can get a £100'ish off if i l say it's not for business use and don't take protected NCD cover but it's taken me 7 years to get the NCD i have now so don't want to loose it (can you imagine the bill without 7 years NCD ). Not looking forward to the TVR ins...... Might have to insure it from my Dad's .... Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I'm not 100% sure on this but I think if you have a claim your NCD goes back to 50% or so not to zero. It all depends on how many claims you have in a certain timescale. You're probably paying 10% extra for protected NCD. I decided it was not worth it, but I was paying the extra 10% on a few vehicles, and if I claimed on one it would only reduce the NCD on that vehicle. Unless we have a spate of accidents (it could happen...and I don't want to tempt fate) we'll be better off without the protection. Worth considering for anyone with a 'fleet'. This may vary from company to company. I'm with NFU who are not the cheapest, but not normally too much more and are excellent to deal with. Doug Quote
pistonbroke Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 The protected no claims thing is a complete scam , it gaurantees nothing exept words If you made a claim you would find the premiun goes up regardless and probably goes sky high Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Andy call Justin Fear on 01278451451 Cleggy give Jusin a ring as well for your fleet policy he is a miracle worker. Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I'm assuming the premium has gone up two and a half times on a like for like basis with no claims. If this is the case it would appear the underwriter doesn't like bananas. Mark 600 to 900 is a 50%, this is about 250% I'm moving to Egypt, they don't insure cars there. Quote

jak Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Just had a renal through for my tin top (54 plate Diesel Mondeo) and it's gone up from £334 to £880............What The f**k! Done a couple of online compare the market type searches and the cheapest is coming in at £744!!!!!! That's bad. My 20 yr old son, just insured his 1.8 diesel Focus for £1000, comprehensive inc breakdown cover, 3yrs NCB. He's with Admiral o a Multi car policy, but on he got a quote for an individual policy which was n't much more. ( Saved more mony on the other cars though) Quote
Mike H Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Everyone I know round Manchester is getting shafted at the moment, even those out in Wilmslow. They're all aged 40+ with plenty of NCD. You won't want to know this but my Passat insurance went from £280 to £300 in Jan and I wasn't happy about that. Mike Quote
Pistol Pete Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I not sure if has changed premiums that much, but over the last year or so, the vehicle groupings have change from 1 - 20 to 1 - 50 (I think). As part of this vehicles may have been adjusted. Back in day I used to have to worry about this, they used to publish the group in Autocar, do they still do that? Rates have gone up generally this year, but the prices you are being quote is v.high, I only pay £500 for a scooby! Although limited to 6k miles per year. Good luck Quote
deanoecosse Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 If you've not tried them, check Admiral/Elephant as they are quoting very low prices at the moment. I'm younger than you @39 and both my Audi A4 and Alfa GTV were under £250 each at renewal last month, protected NCB, legal expenses insurance etc. Managed to knock £20 off by keeping the car in a "residents parking area/road, rather than driveway aswell which was a tip I got from a broker). Just to rub salt in your wounds even further they also quoted me under £800 on a new Gallardo Spider. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 If you've not tried them, check Admiral/Elephant as they are quoting very low prices at the moment. Are they the same group? They have an identical web site when obtaining quotes, and came back with the same prices. so I'm assuming they are one and the same. Having said that, they're £300 more dear than my cheapest quote so far. The quotes are ranging from £370 (esure) to £1,400! Insane. What really is taking the proverbial is that the second cheapest quote is Sheila's Wheels! RAC rewarding my membership, safe driving and claim-free year by bumping my renewal up by 40% to £570 - charming. Robbing b*****ds. Quote
echoz Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 worrying consider im paying a grand a year for a 1.3 auto micra on an M reg heres to hoping things change before this coming december Quote
