The Rebuild Diary...

Nice thread, looking good. I am doing a similar rebuild thing with mine. I didn't go as far as  removing the ali panels though.

Another vote for POR15 it is good stuff. I would recommend  to get a new chassis loom. I may save you a lot of grief in the long run for the sake of a few hundred quid. You also get a wiring diagram

They seem to have used a piece of fresh Westfield chassis tube for a throttle cable assembly  ;)

Indeed parts are now back in my garage. Painting the chassis today if my paint ever arrives

Have then planned to do Friday - Sunday panelling the chassis.

SOS - Does anyone have a rivet gun that I could borrow? OR even better, an air compressor and gun

Trying to source the ali as we speak, any ideas of places in the Shropshire area?

Many thanks in advance

Holyoakes (Shrewsbury) for the Ally or a look in yellow pages for steel stockholders

Have a riveter here you can borrow mate but you'll have arms like Arnie by the time you've finished all the rivetting          :D

Well it has been a while  :p

It has to be said, I am finding it hard to spend much time on the project at the moment although there does now seem to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Chassis has had all of the holes filled and then dressed back. I have also had a few jobs done to it at the same time, namely :

New harness mounts for a 4 point harness (5 point on drivers side)

The drivers side floor plan has been lowered by about 3 inch.

I have also had mounting points put in to suit the Westfield race seats that I have. The plan is to panel the lowered floor in steel to give it some extra strength in case of bottoming out  :bangshead:

The old engine mounting points on the chassis have been removed and new plates welded in to suit the vx

The chassis was then sent away and shotblasted. Unfortunately it then had to sit in the garage for 6 weeks before I have had chance to start painting it, que rust removal part 2!! Anyway, that said I managed to get a full day on it today, cleaned the chassis and preped it for painting using the recommended POR15 (christ it does stick like S***!)

I am really pleased with the results, just trying to keep the garage at a suitable enough temperature for the paint to dry! I have done about 80% of the chassis so plan to finish it off during the week ready for the paneling next weekend.

I have ordered and collected the ally, stacked ready to be cut to shape, just to prove it...

I did manage to get the rear panel off the bay of E for a 'reasonable'  :D  price!

Well next step is to finish painting and then it is on to paneling, whoop whoop...not!

Engine has gone off to one very kind gentleman  :D  to have some work done, arp rod bolts etc. Will do a full post on that with some pics in th near future no doubt.

Note 2 self, kick ones self up the A*** and get a shift on, must be ready for Stoneleigh  :0
