Bananaman Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Looks like a tidy car but would want to know a bit more about the origins of the chassis befor parting with £££ Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 looks ok to me for the money - wonder what is on the log book clearly has westy front and scuttle but you cannot tell from the piccies what chassis it is although the front end suspension looks westy like only thing I would say is why would you put the digi dash there if you could clear up the uncertainty then why not Quote

Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Maybe it's been to Ireland and back again Wasn't there a discussion about this practice a short while ago Quote
RobK Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Surely it's simply a Locost built using part of an original Westfield chassis.... That's my best guess... I thought the chassis and chassis number made the car, the car it is? How many people on here use 100% westfield parts on their cars? What % non Westfield parts make a Westfield a Locost? Got me thinking this has! Quote
dombanks Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 mines in the center of my dash but that ones a bit oo far over to the left isnt it? also the passenger footwell looks quite narrow but i guess to get the engine that far back you'd have to chop a bit out of the chassis Quote

What % non Westfield parts make a Westfield a Locost? Got me thinking this has! The chassis and chassis number do define the identity of the car however.... (and not implying in any way that it is the situation in this instance) Old westfield chassis come up for sale on ebay etc on quite a regular basis which have had the chassis numbers removed, this may be for a number of reasons such as where the original car having been rebuilt with a new/replacement chassis from the factory utilising the original chassis number. When this is done the factory will ask you to return the chassis number which ensures that there are not two cars bearing the same chassis number. The old chassis (with the missing chassis number) may then be sold for parts/ repair etc. but... although this could be accurately described as a modified westfield chassis the completed car legally could not be described or sold as a Westfield as it does not have a westfield identity/chassis number. In the same way that locost with a chassis dimensionally identical to a westfield and with westfield body work could not be called a westfield. As said not saying this is the case for the car in the op, just clarifying when a westfield may not be a westfield. Quote
Martin Keene Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Surely it's simply a Locost built using part of an original Westfield chassis.... That's my best guess... I had the same fleeting thought... That's what I reckon is going on. Thoughts: 1) Roll bar mounts are to far inboard, both uprights and braces, for a Westfield 2) Pre Lit stylre bodywork 3) Not easy to make out, but it seems to have SE wishbones, which doesn't tie up with the pre lit rear. 4) Engine mounted way to far back. 5) Bulk head panel to short 6) Tunnel looks to wide Quote
SteveD Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 no diaganol top braces on the chassis either just emailed the seller for more info Quote
spence Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Were there any Pre-Lits with removable rear arches as they look removable to me ? Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Where there any Pre-Lits with removable rear arches as they look removable to me ? The early alloy bodied ones were, but any prelit will have a much older reg than an L-plate. Quote
Blatman Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Removable arches were standard on pre-lits just as they are on Caterhams 'cos the body is ally, the wings are 'glass Post lit the body is all glass and with fixed arches up unti detachable arches made a "come back" in about the mid 90's... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Yep very early ones were ali bodied with fibreglass arches, later pre-lits were all fibre glass bodied but any prelit will have a much older reg than an L-plate. not necessarily Post lit the body is all glass known as SE and Sei wide - later pre-lits were also all fibreglass body with intergral wings and swept or cycle wings option to frontYes I am old, yes I have been around Westfields for too long and yes I have a good memory (and anorak) Quote
