heater in garage and turned to max it was time to venture out for the first time in a what must be a few months ...

although I have done nowt I have had a bit of thinking and research time - it has been in my mind for a while now to remove my perhaps over the top footwell fabrication and have a go at something a little prettier and a bit more in keeping with the vehicle...

have also invested in a nice spangly portamig - early impression are very good indeed although I am yet to do any serious welding...

anyway first job was to make up some tempory supports to hold the steering wheel column so I can continue to move the car around as required ...

used some round bar to hold in place

2 minutes and the goalposts have now been moved  :D

and holes marked up for where the tub will sit

gonna use a selection of photo's as inspiration from a bonifide 718 - wont copy it but will see what I can do

Hey fella

Good news on the car that it was nowt too drastic - certainly looking down at the crank, bores and at the pistons suggest that the bottom end is good

Would be good to see you - what night you thinking?

ok so two nights in the space of a week - happy days  :D

surprising how little you need to get wrapped up when you are getting stuck in

tonight I drilled out the other side holes for the tub and pushed the car out for a garage tidy up

tub round in the shed

SANY5194.jpg

gonna finish off them stays on the rear hoop next then hopefully am gonna start the big job of the tub - unless I can find sumtin else to do first

thanks Tony for the lift back on with the body and good news that your glasses re-appeared out of nowhere

with the holes now drilled I am ready to start on the cutting of the tub  :0  - have started on the rear stays - one side tacked up

SANY5267.jpg

also had a play with the portamig - had a session altering wire speed and amp adjustments and really good some very flat welds with good penetration - seems to wled very smoothly with none of the spluttering that the old welder gave and instant heat upon start-up

SANY5272.jpg

hopefully last time we see the car with a high n/s front cause mees gonna be getting busy chopping real soon

SANY5269.jpg

here's the captain - she loves sticking her shoes on and helping in the garage  :D

and a better piccy of the scooby after a much needed wash

midge more done - made up other side brackets for the stays

SANY5276.jpg

SANY5277.jpg

just need to make up some gussets that will go at the bottom of the hoop - then once tacked in I intend to go have a play with Daves tig (if you will let me chap  :t-up: )

depending upon how that goes will either see me invest in a tig welder or take it to a professional welder and get them to do all the welds to a high standard - this bit is gonna be on display so I wanna make sure it looks the part

can anyone spot the mistake
