Nemesis
@19 I got off my bikes for a while and got an Allegro, previous owner had changed the gearbox, so I had a 1750 engine with 1500 gearbox and smaller wheels than it should have had.... 75 mph made all the noise of Mach 2 but you could go up any hill on the planet at that speed ! Next car was a Volvo 66GL estate, (you might recall them being made by DAFF) that had a 1300 Renault engine in it and with its variomatic gears sounded like a washing machine on spin.... Got in a right pickle one day when I put new ht leads on.... The firing order was reversed so rear to front and the dizzy ran the wrong way.... hours of head scratching trying to get that right.... Then I had an Uno45..... 903cc's of great fun.... Bulletproof little car that ended up as a BMW bonnet ornament when brothers were racing a BMW and a Capri...... My sister was devastated as she'd only borrowed it for the afternoon.... She cheered up when the insurance paid for her camcorder repair and a new pushchair that the baggage handlers had mullered but happened to be in the boot on the way to the tip..... Then a Ford Sierra Sapphire, 2 litre DOHC..... I did 380 000 miles in that bus and gave it away still road legal and running well. Treated myself to a VX Omega 2.6 V6, lovely plodder, 180 000 trouble free miles with the exception of a failed coil pack, caused by the main stealers only changing half of my plugs on a service..... Onto my current tin top, another VX V6 this time a 3.2 Signum elite with all the toys, great plodder that's a bit lighter than the Omega with slightly better handling.... Not a particularly good tow car but can shuffle along when asked.... Up to 180 000 and still running well, looking a bit tatty and a few electrical gremlins starting to appear, due to VX main dealers being not too great at doing what was paid for I shall be looking to replace it with possibly a VW CC.... Possibly my first diesel !
SootySport
Loads of previous vehicles for me in the past- Best was 1961 Ford Anglia de luxe 997cc, Loved being revved to the max, real fun. Worst was a 1971 Marina TC coupe, Bought in the dark so you can guess how this one performed. In the daylight was actually 3 different shades of red depending on which panel you looked at. Every excursion beyond the driveway ended up with something falling off or deciding not to work to its capability. Eventually caught fire due to dash instrument wiring fault ---thank goodness. Rule no. 1 Don't buy a car without seeing in the daylight.

lewis
This is a fun look back through time. I started out with a 1995 1.8 Ford Escort which cost me £495 to buy and £1800 to insure. Next up I moved onto something different. A 1997 1.8 Ford Escort SI. Getting bored of Escorts but not Ford I got a Focus ST170. Was a great car but that ended in a crash and a broken leg Wanting to be safe next I got a 2004 2.0 Citroen C4 VTS diesel. Had bucket loads of torque but was plagued by turbo problems, went through 3 whilst on warranty. Then I went for a bit of luxury and got a 1998 BMW 735i. Now that was a comfy car to cruise around in. Unfortunately it ended badly for it on a greasy roundabout Changing direction next was a 1995 Land Rover Discovery built for proper off roading. I don't remember a time that I wasn't at either Tixover or Yarwell quarries that the Disco came back with the same amount of working parts as when it entered. I moved to London during owning it and came back one day to find my dad didn't want oil dripping on his drive anymore and instead of a Land Rover I had £700 cash. With this I got the next logical car. A 1994 1.8 Mazda MX-5 I loved this car but ended up giving it to my dad instead of repaying him some money, he sold it for twice the £650 I got it for. I then got a company car which was a 2013 Toyota Auris. Quite impressed but wish it used the battery more. When leaving that job I got my current car. A 2004 BMW 330ci, although this will shortly be up for sale. And of course the most important, the Westfield soon to be on the road.

TAFKARM
I started off ordering myself a MINI Cooper after landing myself my first job. Living with parents saw the most of my wages invested in buying bits for it or travelling all over the country to various meets. Then I had to grow up and sold it when I bought a house. I replaced it with a 1992 BMW 318is which I suppose wasn't too bad.It didn't last too long, I thought it was a bit soggy and the idea of replacing suspension parts didn't enter my little brain!1992 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo was the next victim of my bountiful motoring wisdom. It was quite good actually, more because nobody knew what it was.I then had the idea that I could sell that, get a loan and buy a land rover AND a Westfield. Fortunately it was one of the rare occasions when I used my loaf and I ended up not committing financial suicide so just ended up with the land rover. Technically my first (and only) convertible hard top!and a surprisingly small amount of money later:Parenthood came along and this wasn't compatible though (lack of seats, diesel leaking into the cab). I sold it and bought a high mileage 1990 BMW 318is. This was much better than the E36!Another car I should have kept rather than selling when I got worried about expensive bills that might come up.I went back to 4x4s and bought a 1989 Range Rover Vogue SE. Best car I'd owned in a long time and all for £900 (plus £200 of welding). Electric seats, air conditioning, lovely ride and V8 soundtrack. Unfortunately said V8 soundtrack came with the appropriate fuel bill and it became apparent that it wasn't really feasible. I should have stumped up the cash for an LPG kit.Still, stupidity reigns and I went back to hatch backs with a 1993 VW Golf 1.8 Driver. It was rubbish and for some reason I thought lowering it 90mm and sticking Borbet As on it would help. It didn't.Still, not one for making the same mistake twice I thought maybe it just needed more power so sold it for a 2.0 16v one. It was just faster rubbish really. After spending as much on gearboxes as I paid for the car I sold it and bought a Rover 200 BRM that my parents neighbour was selling it. Very underrated and the dodgy boudoir interior helped lift the dated looks a bit. Mine had the grill painted green rather than orange.A couple of years later I had the idea of buying an E36 touring and putting an M3 engine in it. The BRM was duly sold and a 328 touring source. That was treated to coilovers, 18's, corbeau seats, 330 brakes (which didn't make it onto the car) but never an M3 drivetrain. My inability to finish a project was showing through.I sold it for a 1998 Nissan 200sx as I figured that would be a much cheaper way of making a quick car. I did all the usual modifications but never really got on with it, I just didn't like it's inherent lack of pointiness. This lead me to revisiting the Westfield idea and here I am, one MX5 and most of a build later! There's also a 1992 Land Rover Discovery that was bought whilst I had the touring. That's currently my daily driver... Dommo, I'm 99% sure that's my old 318iS!!! Was it VJI****

Quinten
Only owned 2 cars when I lived in Holland 1) Vauxhall (Opel) Omega (1986) My first car was one of these in poverty spec. Let's just say that I did not have much ambition back then 2) Hyundai Coupe (1996) Had one new, as a company car in a very dark purple (flip type) paint. Loved it to bits and although the engine was only luke warm, it was a nice place to be in. 3) Austin Maestro (1988) My first car when we emigrated to the UK in 1998. Bought from an old biddy in absolutely mint condition. Was unfortunately totalled on the M25 in a 4 car pile up. 4) Renault Laguna (1996) The replacement. The rust bucket. The MOT failure. The £600 p/x on a £11K car. 5) Skoda Octavia vRS (2001) My first foray in turbo-charged cars and this one will be forever in my heart. Had it for 3 years and only sold it because of the mileage on it. 6) Renault Espace (2000) I don't know why we bought this, but I can tell you why we won't buy one ever again. Electrics. The French just can't string two wires together if their life depended on it. The room inside was good though, and with the removable seats, very versatile. 6) Skoda Octavia vRS (2002) After I disappointingly was unable to sit comfortably in my dream car (and at the time affordable still!), a BMW Z3M Coupe, aka the breadvan, I bought this "slightly modified" Octavia vRS from a friend. It had a bigger turbo along with other "subtle" bits done and was (on high boost) good for 337bhp. 7) Vauxhall Signum (2004) I started a new job within walking distance of home, so no longer needed a frugal (ahum) car, so went for the 3.2V6 in Elite spec. It had everything, including a dodgy alternator, which prompted us to trade it in pretty quickly 8) Citroen C-Crosser (2008) ... against this brand new (pre-registered) car on a personal lease. For a diesel it wasn't particularly frugal but it was comfortable and with it being new, not too troublesome either. 9) BMW M5 (1999) When the Citroen lease ended, I went all out and got the car that can do it all. Kids to school; check. Weekly shopping; check. Nürburgring; check. Still keep in touch with the guy who bought it from me. 10) Skoda Fabia vRS (2004) By now we've moved 40 miles away from work, so time for a cheap, but still fun, commuter. Although the turbo popped in my ownership, the car itself was a pleasure to own and drive. Shouldn't have sold it in hindsight. 11) Vauxhall Vectra 1.9CDTi (2006) No before pictures, only the result of what happens when you meet another car side-on at 60mph. Faithful workhorse and life saver. 12) Westfield SEiW (2010) My first Westie and although loved, only short in my hands. Change of plans forced sale. Which leads us nicely to my current cars: 13) Citroen C3 (2003) 14) Westfield SEW (1998) 15) Ford Mondeo ST-TDCi (2006)
AdamR
I'm either not as old as you lot or don't change cars as often Edit: Or maybe not, didn't think the list was this long! 1) Peugeot 106 XL (ran forever even with a huge oil leak, then I had a spare battery in the boot which fell over, leaked and ate through the rear seats, haha) 2) Fiesta Zetec TDCi 1.4 (cambelt shat itself on the motorway, cost £2600 to fix, traded it in for £2500 ) 3) Corsa SXi 1.3 Diesel (bought brand new, but never again, was a decent car but depreciated insanely) 4) Ibiza 1.6 CR Sport (got it on about 14k 4 years ago, now on 65k and doing well, good runabout / long distance car for my wife but not toooo boring) The numbering gets a bit sketchy from here, having multiple vehicles most of the time... - Mk3 Golf GTi road legal track car - much better than I realised at the time, got a bit rusty and sold it at a fair loss - Clio 172 Cup road legal track car - bought it almost standard then fitted a full cage etc. Cracking car but wrong wheel drive! - Octavia vRS (remapped, serviced it, stuck a cambelt on it and it went forever - great car, only sold it to get a van) - Renault Trafic 2.0 Crew Cab - really good van, nice engine and box, not too 'French' in terms of electrics. Sold it to get... - Crafter XLWB Camper. Had lots of miles but a full history, was reliable, but got nicked... - T5 Transporter Camper as a replacement. Such a lazy thing to drive as an auto and with cruise control, pulls trailer perfectly. - Blue Mk1 MX-5, daily driver then track hack - amazing little thing. Now sat outside as just a shell having gone rotten and been stripped for bits. - Mk1 MX-5 Race car, still got it, don't plan to get rid any time soon. - Silver Mk1 MX-5, daily driver, reliable, fun, cheap, awesome. Will be keeping this indefinitely! - Red Munter (Mk1 MX-5 track project, no windscreen, home built roll cage, tiny wheels, slicks, great fun - used as often as I can) - S2 Elise 1.8 K-Series - been reliable but don't enjoy driving this, never really gelled with it despite working on it frequently, it's not very involving and too crashy - wife loves it though! Still got this. - Westfield #1, SEW with a 2.0 Zetec and a fairly road-ish spec which morphed into a more track orientated car - Westy #2, still got that one, but it's a bit 'frustrating' in that it's too fast for road and track days, but not specific enough to be competitive at sprints... hence wanting to try something else... - Fisher Fury R1, picking that up later today. Just 460kg with very low gearing (tops out at 122mph) and 140bhp at the hubs, making noise all the way up to 11750rpm - should be fun!
