Jenko Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 QUOTE ...and why it needs to have a far bigger engine to keep tabs on the older DeDion cars... I can see this falling into the pointless merits of one verses another discussion bin!!!!.... Are you seriously suggesting that the CSR needs a bigger engine because they decided to use IRS???.... I fully admit to being no expert on this subject, but I was under the impression that DeDion was a half way house between Live axel and IRS...Irrespective of Westfields vs Caterhams, I made the assumption that most modern sports cars (and others) were using IRS, there must be a reason for this?... Nope, I'm suggesting that the flagship car isn't as quick as the regular 7 when compared like for like. As to IRS being better just because it's more modern is a little ironic given the car's basic design is from the 1950's. I'll admit I'm being pedantic. It's just I don't accept the sweeping generalisation that IRS is simply 'better'. As with all these things, it comes down to personal preference. I'll stop now. Quote
juansolo Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Ok no I wont. To make my point. Would the Mk2 Escort be improved by pulling out the live axle and fitting IRS? Not neccessarily. It's part of why the car is like it is. DeDion *is* a compromise, it keeps live axle like handling but brings a little more civility with it. This IMO is not neccessarily a bad thing. There are some strange individuals out there that actually really like the way LA cars handle and think that the IRS Westy loses too much of it's character. Contraversial I know. Then again the best track Westy I know of is IRS, so it's obviously not clear cut. Horses for courses. Quote
juansolo Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I should probably stop stirring now and get on with some work... Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 The ones I have chatted with have all been very nice. Not a Rolex in sight Quote
Jenko Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Ok, I accept the argument about how a car feels and the added character that it brings having certain suspension setups, that is a very fair point...And I guess the definition of 'what constitutes better' is a big part of this discussion......I guess I was coming from the angle of our typical lumpy bumpy roads, and IRS being a more compliant set up over the DeDion, I'm sure on a track this would make squat all difference, much like the live Axel Westfields that I understand to be very good on track when huge pot holes, and 3 inch bumps are not an issue........... Phew, that'll do.... Quote

Blatman Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 No, not a watch tart as witnessed over on the dark side, more a discerning consumer with a nice watch... Quote
Blatman Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I would rather a Breitling than a Rolex. Hve you *seen* your car? Quote
Mark Purves Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Hi Blatters lets not start on that old topic of car colour. I use to be indecisive but I am not quite sure now. Quote
