Westfield racing seats

The back seems to flex a bit, even on the trimmed ones.

For this reason I have not bothered with seat adjustment (another source of flex can be free play in the runners) and will also make up some ali support brackets to bolt between the seat back and the top of the bulkhead once SVA is out of the way.

I know this isn't ideal if you want to keep adjustability but at least it stops the girlfriend from driving it  :D

I have passengered in a car with identical seats but mounted on the WF adjustable runners and the additional movement of the seat was quite noticeable and gave the whole car a much more compliant feel.  Not nice in my opinion.

Steve.

JeffC- How did you find the uncovered seats with regards to stiffness!!(the seat!;)  I`ve heard from some people that thay tend to flex a bit,  whereas others have said that they`ve had no problem at all.

One of the board members makes a little bracket which supports the seat back, I forget his name though.

Hmmm... not very useful info' then  :durr:

Hello Blatman  :t-up:

I believe both seats are the same other than the cover ??? they certailnly look the same when  I swapped from  one to the other I opted to keep the comfier option  ;)

I had a problem with my seats moving about  under braking and acceleration ,was aweful didnt inspire confidence.. as allready suggested it was the seats twisting on the  adjustable runners I first got round it by chocking the runners with a lump of wood behind the seat , Ive now permantley solved it by bolting the seats down to the floor, Much better  now no problems at all..

My pals just fitted a playskool seat that bolts to the floor and to the back via a bracket , that is spot on very firm , again only down side is fixed, position.. .

Thanks for the advice and pics.  I`m goona go with a new seat on runners rather than fixed to the floor of the car as I`d like it to be adjustable.

1. Don't do it! Read my post! You won't be any lower!

2. I thought the seat as in Tiggers photo was 'disappointing' to be polite.

Give me a ring or come and see the car. Based in Shrewsbury, numbers in the phone book.

FWIW

I went from the standard sports seat to a Playskool GRP version.  The lack of padding at the back did give me the extra leg room I needed.  I solidly mounted it the deletion of the runners also significantly dropped the height.  I also made a C/F brace for the top of the seatback so it is absolututely solid.  No point in having a good fit in the seat if that then moves around.  All in, it made a big difference.

My conclusion is, if you want the sports seat for extra space, it is only worth it if mounted directly.

I also tried a block of foam shaped to fit between the seat and the rear bulkhead, side and transmission tunnel.  This helped rigidity but I lost all length gains.  Might be an option of you want to retain the adjusetrs though.

Cheers, ohn

I had a trial fitting of my Westfield racing seat today. It's a snug fit and it does look like it'll be a pig to bolt the runners to the floor once the seats is bolted from the side into the runners.

Not too sure how I'm going to do the bolts up from underneath and hold the nuts steady from above. ???

Does look very nice just sitting in the car

If you're not mounting the seat on runners, just bolt it to the floor. The side mount kit is just adding weight, complexity, and a potential failure point. And they have been known to fail...

if you bolt the seat to the floor the you can adjust its position to fit yourself and not your wife/girlfriend. The perfect reason why they can never have a shot!

When I say runners I mean the fixed blades as supplied from Westfield.

I've done multiple searches but not seen any detailed discussions/pictures of the race seats fitted in a narrow body.

You're probably right about fixing the seat direct to the floor, although I'll need to use some form of wedges because the seat bottom isn't  flat.

Brilliant thinking, I'm defintely bolting the seat straight to the floor now  :D
