steveb Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 Wow, and all this from just asking what the differences were between Westfields and Caterhams, I didn't even ask which was best. Jumping on peoples spelling is petty, but I must admit some of the spelling /english I read on the net shocks me. I instantly assume they are retarded and so discount everything they have to say. I don't agree with the dyslexic excuse either, I was told that I'm dyslexic at school, however I didn't inform university as I felt its an "excuse badge", I worked around it. Now I hope my english is regarded as perfectly adequate , I must re-spell most words I type and don't submit a post until i'm happy. Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 there are exactly zero parts in common between a 1957 series 1 Lotus 7 and a 2005 (pre CSR) Caterham 7. The overall dimensions are basically the same and so is the overall appearance, but thats it. The 'heritage' stems from the fact that its possible to trace each evolutionary change to the car from 1957 to 2005. This is an objective question, NOT a dig nor a criticism. If the heritage is of value and it's possible to trace each evolutionary change from the Series 1 Lotus 7 to 2005, surely it follows that Westfields share in that heritage, but have evolved along a separate route since sometime in the late 20th century. It is axiomatic that at some point the Caterham species of "evolved 7" and the Westfield species were identical or else why did Caterham take Westfield to court for copyright infringements. Copyright judgements are predicated upon whether a typical lay consumer (e.g.the man on the Clapham omnibus) could easily differentiate between the product of the owner of the copyright on a design, and the "pretender". After the sucessful prosecution of that action, Westfield moved off along its own evolutionary path. Quote
