With regards to the shunting of Marks car at the recent WSCC Mallory track day ,and having thought about this unusually large  incident ,It's exactly not what you would expect really is it, I mean a Track Day you might expect to be unlucky and break a nose cone / wing / whatever , or even the odd mechanical disaster (Buzz dropping a rod in the 1st session)

But to have your car written off isnt exactly "on the cards" for a Club Track day !

To this end I would like to propose a collection / whip round between members to help Mark through a bit .

I know I'm being cheeky and am sticking my neck on the block here because this concerns those people who do these events and share the same risk as Mark did , but track insurance is mighty expensive and I beleive Mark was a victim of circumstance ,So please do not be offended by my suggestion .

Im sure a lot of us could afford A Few quid to help the lad out

Any money at all to help him would I am sure would be gratefully received

I know from experience that if you were in trouble Mark would be one of the first people along to help you out .

What I am suggesting is that we make a pledge for x amount here or if you wish to remain anonymus just send a cheque what have you to Mark

As  to the amount to be pledged this must be up to each of you

I just thought it might be a nice idea if anyone like me feels like chipping in to help Mark with his re build costs ?

Not a fortune just a few spare pounds

I will start the ball rolling by pledging £25

c'mon guys  dig deep !!!

(sits back and waits for the flack)

Dont restrict this to members  ;)

Anyone following this forum will probably feel obliged to commit.

Count me in, £25 seems a good figure,

available on request.

Nice idea but :

- do you do this for everyone who's had an accident at a trackday ?

- if people know what happened and there is a culprit then why should they not bear the cost of replacing Mark's car ?

Trackdays I've done in the US have had a simple rule - if two cars come together then both sides sit down and come to an agreement, under the guidance of the people running the trackday.

I believe that is what should happen in this case if there was contact between two cars.

If it means the culprit having to sell his car or give it to the victim then so be it.  It should not be up to members to provide such an insurance policy because it sets a difficult precedent IMO.

Two cars should NEVER make contact at a trackday and they should never be as close as they appear to be in some of the photographs I've seen of the event....

And comments like "who the driver told me was pushed onto the grass twice by the idiot who was driving the yellow megabusa. Keep driving like that and there's no dought you will end up in trouble." scare the living daylights out of me.  Was nobody watching the driving and pulling people in for bad behaviour ??

I'm sorry, but based on the reported events of Friday if I was to attend a trackday with the WSCC my car would be staying firmly in the paddock....

It wasn't that bad, just one incident, but with serious consequences, sorry, but, and you could be right, from what I have seen recently the behaviour of some drivers into the lake esses would not be shamed in the BTCC's :(  :(  :(

I respect your sentiments there but dont want to turn this post into a discussion of the rights& wrongs v merits - de merits of it all

I'm sure everyone has an oppinion but this is the Westfield sports car club after said and done

It seems there was one serious accident but a number of other incidents and cases of bad driving (which wasn't policed).

I'm sorry, but that is 100% unacceptable at a trackday.  It's too dangerous to f*ck about on track and for dangerous behaviour to be missed or ignored.

I'm really sorry for what happened to the cars in the incident and would not wish the same on anyone but, and a big but at that, there is always going to be risk at these events and we accept this when we sign that disclaimer. No matter how well or not, drivers behaved at this event, the risk still stands and the outcome is nobodys fault whatsoever. If you take part at these events and feel you cannot cover the cost of an incident like this then don't take part without trackday insurance. I have full admiration for the way Mark handled himself after the event and thought he acted with some degree of dignity considering the cicumstances, despite this I will not be contributing to the repair of his car as I beleive it un-ethical

Anyway, someone made a mistake, and someone suffered, still count me in for the whip round.

Only met Mark the once (Meet the neighbours 3 weeks ago), I couldn't get a word in all afternoon! That said he bought me a drink and I didn't get the chance to return the favour, so count me in.

Glad you're OK Mark

I say we setup a fund like the Ca*&^%£m boys have. They call it nuke the luke (good cause)

But I have loads of bits that I would let go for a donation towards a westie fund :) i.e 2 x xflow rocker cover gaskets, 1 x xflow coil etc I would let go for a few quid. Westie trackday fund???

I'll start the ball rolling with a good few bits if interested?

Whilst I applaud the sentiment, I think we need to have more discussion about what happened. Have we heard from the other driver? There are two sides to every story, and we only have one side. It may be that the other driver had a mechanical failure like a stuck throttle or some other malady, either mechanical or physical, which means that whilst it was unfortunate, it was just an "innocent" accident. Likewise, whilst I was at the event, I never actually spoke to Mark to hear first hand what happened. Did Mark and Mr X discuss the matter after? Was there a resolution? There are too many unanswered questions for me at the moment, and I'd like to see both parties describe the incident in their own words before forming any opinions.

Quite possible and I didnt here of any verbal contact ,

If it had been a mechanical I would have expected the other guy to have said something ? I mean if your throttle sticks open (as happened to me on the same day ) its not something you keep to yourself , and the same could be said for brake failure or whatever .

regardless of the cause or who to blame the outcome is the same , one car lightly damaged and repairable the other one wrecked !

dont know if the CoC took any details and I dont see at this stage how it would help, unless there was a deliberate act or provocation  ???

I was planning to go on the WSCC Cadwell Park track day in September, but will not do so if I think the standard of driving is as  chazpowerslide repoted on page 2 of the other thread on this topic. He didn't want to name names, but these drivers need to be banned from future events unless they can explain their driving. This really is not what I expect from a WSCC track day. What shocked me most reading about this was the lack of black flagging. I've been black flagged before for spinning when trying to avoid a cone in the middle of the track. Never even dreamt of trying to block other drivers on fast bends, or some of the other antics chazpowerslide mentioned. But if I did I would expect to be sent home. There's something seriously wrong here that WSCC needs to sort out. I wont be going on a WSCC track day till it is.
