wacomuk Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 Would think in will be on a "Q" plate for that moneyonly down side is if you have a private plate you want to fit You may or may not get ameture build status if he builds them for a living so emmissoins could be as for the age of the car the reg will be taken from the dona car Quote
wacomuk Posted March 17, 2005 Author Posted March 17, 2005 Check it is a westfield chassis, or indeed a westfield full stop. Sound stupid, but it has been done and passed off before. Also, is it new, or a rebuilt chassis? It's one thing to say SVA is included, but if it's registered and has an MOT when you collect, and he tels you that they keep the certificate when it's registered, you aint going to know if it was or wasn't Mark up 2 now all I have seen is the body panels, they all have a part number and colour code stuck to them how can you tell if its not a Westfield chassis ?? would it be worth much less if its not ?? MAT1800 Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Build one yourself, it's a lot more fun and you also know exactly what is on the car and what condition it is in. I also presume (not quite finished mine yet) that it makes maintaining the cars a lot simpler. As for checking if it's a westfield, ask him for the Chassis number, give Westfield a ring, and I recon they could be able to tell you if it's genuine or not and probably the build date of the chassis as well. Mark Stanton Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 how can you tell if its not a Westfield chassis ?? would it be worth much less if its not ?? Check the chassis number with the factory and it certainly wouldn't be worth £9500.00 if itwasn't a genuine Westfield - undamaged, un crashed chassis Quote
ChrisG Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 I'd also advise caution, apart from the fact that its very dubious as to whether it would be a proper Westfield or not at that price, even suppliers with good initial intentions get into trouble with these things. About 3 years ago a few guys on the BEC list put down 50% deposits on some Locost blade BECs that a chap was building up for a race series, he was asking around £5-6k all in to get a car built and on the road and he seemed genuinely keen to get his race series off the ground and to supply these cars. Im not sure on the details now but Im pretty sure nobody actually got a complete car and some still havent had any cash back either, basically the chap found out it was costing him more time/money to build them than he planned, and basically ran out of cash before completing anything Quote
ChrisG Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Ive just re-read and saw you said it was a mate of your dad's so the above might not be as much of a concern, but it still seems too cheap to be true - how much does a complete SDV kit cost though, maybe thats what its based on? Quote
melt Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 If it's any help, I have a receipt from Westfield for my car when originally purchased: SEIW 1800 'Q' plate all modules £12,999.99 inc VAT. (this included everything - engine, box etc.) Mel This was Jan 2001 Quote

However, it's a 1.6 CVH SEiW factory-built '98 model I bought it two years ago in perfect nick with 4,000 miles on the clock for 7K. I thought Westfields didn't depreciate? Neil Quote

ChrisG Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Could it be an SDV kit though, the fact that wacomuk mentioned that it will keep the donor registration age tends to suggest it might be, as I don't think you'd be able to do this on a regular Westie what with the various sources of major components would you? Chris Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Doesn't SDV use the original Sierra Pinto engine and type 9 gearbox so as to retain the reg The build spec mentions Zetec and MT75 which would be from a Mondeo £9500 - including a genuine Westfield pukka kit (SDV or whatever) + all those parts noted and including build man hours SVA etc - just sounds too good to be true - it would be a crackin deal Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 The MT75 would be from a late model Sierra, the Mondeo MTX75 drives the wrong end Some people have, I believe had thieir V5's amended to show a Zetec transplated into the Sierra donor, and then "gone on" to use this as the donor and keep the original licence plate. Have to agree, all still sounds to cheap though. Quote
Terry Everall Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 What will quality be like? Has he built a kit car before and had it SVA'd? Quote
