As with everything else there's choices. Doesn't matter which side you fit the ECU as the wiring is long enough for either side. I followed the factory's advice, which was to fit it on a hinged aluminium plate on the passenger side.

Pro - can easily swing it down to get access to the ECU if you need to take it out;

Con - gets in the way of the passenger footwell heater vent.

I took about 25mm off the width of the plate and mounted it as near to the outside as I could. With the heater now in place, the passenger vent points at the footwell OK.

first time I've had anyone (who knows what a westfield is) look at it...
