(knackered shocks and re-moulds rather than power).

samcooke
Since 1997 I've had: 1966 Beetle - 1776cc twin 40s 130bhp 1990 205XS 1991 205XL (after the XS met its maker and insurance went daft) 1994 Mondeo 1.6 1977 Capri 2.0 JPS 1985 1275 mini 1984 Polo 1.0 1989 Orion 1.6 Ghia 1990 205 1.9GTi 1988 216 Vanden Plas (! 1998 Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 1978 Porsche 924 1998 Audi A4 1.8 1994 Saab 900 turbo - 260 big hp 1997 Rover 216 coupe auto 1995 306 XS 1997 Nissan 200sx 1990 LS400 1989 Westfield 2003 Fury (bits of) Best of the lot? The Saab. Set the climate. Set the cruise. Set the sat nav. Set the CD going. Select fifth. Arrive before you know you've left. Comfier than the LS400. Doesn't depreciate. Doesn't break. And is much too ugly for anyone to consider stealing or keying it. That's 21 in 6 years. I'm quite pleased with that. I want to see neo's list. Liam
Fiat 500c 1953 - front engined 4 cyl 596cc 2 seater -wish I still had it,have you seen what they fetch? Morris Minor - 948 - better handling than A35 (now the abuse will start but it's true) Morris Minor - 1275 but no brakes - buried in the side of PA Cresta (yes I am that old) - you wouldn't believe that much rust could fall out of a Cresta - then again...... Cortina Mk1 airflow Ditto Mk2 Cor'ina Mk3 (some people never learn) Cavalier - after Cortinas, a dream machine Astra Mk1 1300 - one of the first in the country - absolute screamer - wish I still had it it was so much fun. Astra Mk1 Series 2 1600 5 speed - black with gold cross- spoke compomotives - very 80's and very smart but not a patch on the 1300 - just wouldn't rev. Lancia Prisma 1600ie - an absolute belter - twin-cam engine that sang - fitted a flash (in those days)30 watts per channel stereo and never turned it on (still working perfectly in daughters car 18 years on). Also still got the Raid wheel I fitted if anyone want's one. Vauxall Belmont - yes, I know but it did have an 1800 injection motor and was quite quick even if it handled like a Post Office and looked hideous. Renault 21 2ltr hatchback- almost as hideous as the Belmont but comfortable and practical for a growing family and was indecently quick but had French electrics - nuff said. 128000 miles Peugeot 405 diesel (non-turbo) - very short lived after 2 ltr fuel injected Renault. Peugeot 405 GTD - comfortable - many toys - quite quick in a diesel sort of way. Did 125000 miles in it - buried in a Vectra on M25 - sorry to see it go really. Passat TDi 115 - different league - built like a Panzer - well equipped quality vehicle. Surprisingly quick but vague steering - 123000 -nothing broke or fell off - averaged 50mpg!! throughout it's hard driven life. Sports seats built for well padded teutonic bums. Audi A6 TDi 130 6 speed, (comes with higher torque- 229lb/ft- engine) - up another league from Passat. Pulls from 900 revs to flat out, which quite a large number, in 6th. Mid range acceleration impressive. 3050 revs @ 100 (was I really officer). As quiet at that speed and higher as most cars at 70. Comfortable, spacious, many more toys, not as economical as Passat - 44.5 for first 30000 - but only needs servicing every 20000 or so. That's approaching 1 million miles worth of motoring. Memsahib just bought herself a Rover 25 - we like free money deals. Oh, nearly forgot, something called a Wingfield, no, Westfield, that's the one. We no longer talk about the three Fiat Pandas Chris/Martin Well that passed half an hour

Fat Albert
1959 Morris Minor 1000 at 16 years old Had to replace clutch before passing test - wore it out on the (20m) drive After some shady action by Stewart & Arden salesman brother, fitted 5.5J rims with practically bald Cinturatos (off an MGB), 12" dia steering wheel and bucket seat from a wrecked racing mini In the rain the car went sideways more than forewards, taught me everything I needed to know and as I type, a big grin is spreading
