hope its better than the mini one.. i test drove that a while back and it really shattered my illusion. Definately put me off.

I tried the CooperS Works...fantastic fun but true BMW prices, disappointingly flimsy plasticky interior and that designed in (gearbox) whine, how annoying...

Still, fantastic fun.

Did I say fantastic fun?  :D

I would certainly do an oil change after 5/6K, even though the service schedule is likely to be 12K.  Then again, if it is not your car, and/or you don't intend keeping it, why bother?

If you change the oil before recommended service you will likely halt the ring bedding in process, especially if it is a better grade. Initial fill oil in all new engines is deliberately low grade for this reason.

Let the engine idle for a minute or two before switching off-it allows a constant circulation of oil to cool the turbo.

If you thrash, and switch off immediately, the red hot turbo will literally fry the now stationary oil in the turbo.

In the early days of turbo's this was essential but now with electric oil and coolant recirc pumps that operate as soon as the engine is switched off there is no need for this.

I cocur with my esteemed colleages. Drive it like you stole it. AFAIK, diesels don't require running in.

Making use of the peak torque revs with wide throttle openings is best. Running the engines gently will cause the bores to glaze up & that is where you will eventually see problems with high oil consumption.

In a Mundano Diesel? I know that there are a number of motors with this tack fitted, is the Ford one of them?  ???

If it's on mine, then it's *totally* silent, and the handbook makes no mention of it... I *really* hope I'm wrong though...

I would have thought most TDi's wont have too many problems switching off hot.  If its been chipped or running loads of boost (most tdi's don't) then it won't get that hot.  Towing will make it hotter, but I doubt it'll be a problem.

chipping,uhum,190 bhp 300lb/ft torque, think I'll let it idle for a while before switching off.Mine also seems to have that 'silent' over run system.Have thought about a run on timer, not for when I drive it,just when the wife is rushing about doing her daily duties, you know, shoe shop sales and Mothercare, running on gets forgotten about.Oh and if you want a 'proper'mini, see Ray West at Thruxton.220bhp and 150+ mph!!!.Does good diesel remaps too.....

Hi With a diesel you have to keep the engine revs up it does not like to labour compression ratio is about 25 to 1 No running in needed just keep changing the oil every 6000 miles, a diesel loves work. Had a new man coach 15 litre twin turbo two pairs of drivers thumping down to spain every day no maintenance except tyres as and when needed 12 months driving 325000 kilometers no problems
