Trust me, I worked in the customs cage at stanstead airport for fed ex for 6 months, even packages leaking white powder got ignored by customs and excise.

Since Sept 11/War on Terror? I've had *lots* of things stopped by customs since then, although mostly at their destinations. However, the last half dozen or so things that customers have mis-declared have been pulled, two in the last month......

Since Sept 11/War on Terror?

Nope, but the loophole still exists.  So long as you can succesfully convince customs its samples it'll be fine.  Can't see why a "new type" of turbo being imported into the country by a garage that specialises in turbo'd cars can't have been shipped a turbo as a sample.  We regularly had commercial samples to the value of several thousand pounds shipped, they occasionaly got stopped whilst customs checked that they were actually samples.

However, the last half dozen or so things that customers have mis-declared have been pulled, two in the last month......

Mis declaring the contents of any package will get it stopped, nearly everything customs investigated and 90% of stuff that was delayed on arrival was due to mis representing the package on the airway bill.  A 25kg parcel with the contents declared as "a magazine" is gonna have a problem getting through customs wether its marked samples or not.

I spoke to a subaru buddy last night and TOTB are still open to team registrations until early June.

Ok guys - anyone want to get together a list of interested folks ???

This is gonna be a lot of fun.

Hi Ian,

Yep, got the same reply from them, so who's up for a team effort ? Steve W is already going, just need to add some names and think of a good team name  :D  :D

I will be up for it definately

Just been up to elvington today to watch the qualifying sessions.

Nothing much to worry about in the 2wd class

A few Skylines looked quick but I an sure we could put them to shame.

Sent Chris Mann an e-mail last week who is the organiser of TOTB and also the organiser of the 200 plus club.

He said he would like at least one 1/4 slip from each car to prove it's capabilities by June, as the event is for the fastest cars only

This was an enquiry for me as a single entry though.

  • 1 month later...

Spoken to Chris Mann (organiser of TOTB) earlier this week,

There may be a few places open for this years event as there have been a few drop out.

I am meeting up with him at Elvington this weekend (RWYB 04.07.04) to discuss.

For all those that are interested in taking part in this years event please call me after 6.30pm week days, anytime through the day Sat/Sun to discuss.

Mob. 07887 517597  Austen

Hopefully I will be putting a team together for next years event (TOTB IV) as well once I have discussed this with Chris.

Hopefully there will be 10 places available for next years event, places will be allocated on proven times from each car. Faster the better.

:D

www.totb.co.uk   Ten-of-The-Best!!!

It seems all places are provisionally booked up for this years event.

If you want to be placed on the reserve list it might be worth contacting Chris directly as there might be a few that drop out

If we get a team together for 2005 there will be 5 places up for grabs.

You'll need to pick your 5 very carefully!  No Westfield is going to have a hope in hell on the top speed run or the 1/4 mile course.  Don't underestimate the other cars for the handling course either.  Duncan Cowper's Dax got a good pasting and it is very fast - like the front runners in the speed series he wins most times out and has taken many FTDs.
