Just to add that my insurance didn't go up appreciably after my claim.  IIRC only about £20

I just did a quick calculation on body work that I can see is damaged and that is now £5k alone. Sadly I think this will be written off as they will value against similar or whatever your agreed value is.

The much cheaper option if not repairing through WF would be a new nosecone and some flared side panels.

There are also a couple of options other than WF to buy the main tub, but the tub looks repairable to me.

I agree Mark but that all depends upon the insurance. I think the tub is repairable but then add in painting and you are at the £2k Westfield want and the insurance company will be adding up everything.

Everything is repairable but say it has a value of £10k anything more than £6 to repair they will write it off and then sell the salvage. I would have no issue buying a repaired car but if it has a Category against it then the resale value is lowered.

I built one years ago and sold it to a guy who had it two weeks after it was registered, before it was involved in a big accident involving three cars, the damage was less than this and they wrote it off due to the Westfield estimate to repair. That was sold repaired and is still on the road today.

I was looking more from the perspective of it being uneconomical for the insurer to repair, and so buying it back and then Snowy organising the repairs himself.

When you do it this way you have the chance to use companies such as Siltech rather than WF for the repairs, use alternative supplies or even second hand to keep the costs down. And of course you save massively on the labour element.

As a home repair with and assuming it needs a new Siltech front end fitting i’m not seeing anything more than £2K of damage in the photos.

Speaking from experience, and if you want to keep the car and get the repair done yourself DO NOT LET IT OUT OF YOUR SIGHT UNTIL THE CLAIM IS SETTLED.

Sorry for shouting, if the car has been recovered to your home, good, if not get it back there asap, salvage can get lost in the system very quick.

Hi All,

Update,

Spoke to insurance company who asked me where do I want it to go to as its a specialised vehicle. My car is now going to Siltech tomorrow. Been speaking with Andy who has stated that it is easily repairable. ( at a cost) I did get a guide from the insurance company who said 65% of the value they would pay approx 11K.

Going with flared panels as a replacement rather than new tub. Cycle wings are plastic!

Are westfield the only ones producing nose cones?

Things are looking a bit more positive but then we are dealing with insurance companies.

Flux is a very big company although it is Kings Lynn based and the owner lives a couple of miles from me. He has a great reputation as a person locally. .and I know the business really looks after its employees and the local area etc. although I have read some non complimentary reports in the past about certain service levels.. but I would say if you do not get a reasonable service then escalate it up the chain...

But it sounds like you have made a good start..

I’d take the payout and walk away - save yourself a lot of hassle.

If repaired by Siltek could make a good fast low cost track car... if it doesnt need to be polished...

I understand the emotional attachment to the car very well and the desire to get it fixed.  I’ve seen an awful lot worse than that get back on the road.  I’m very pleased things are looking so much more positive. 👍

Great result. The guys at Siltech will do a good job, plus they do all the suspension too.
