Gods I miss living in Germany

Aren’t they getting rid of the no limit Autobahns to comply with the rest of Europe’s 130kph max?

I hope not. Never been fined or been on a speed awareness course. Been stopped and warned lots of times but never issued a ticket, call me Mr Lucky, touch wood.

I haven't heard anything like that. Well, someone has been talking about forever, but it's always been ignored. Usually enters the newspapers during the summer when nothing else is happening...

(Happy to stand corrected, not lived there for a while now)

The German Green Party, who under PR have some MP's are always demanding the reduction however the Germans are steadfast in being against this and politicians know they upset the electorate there at their own risk as a small shift in voting can have a big effect in who rules

Speeding is an absolute offence. You can be done for 1mph over the limit and you have no defence whatsoever. Despite the ACPO guidelines I won't pass those yellow motorway cameras above 72 on my speedo.....

More and more of those cameras are being used regardless of any posted limit on the gantries. I see lots who are getting tickets going through at 80mph. where before the only ones live all the time were Bristol M4 M5 interchange which are set at 75mph, allegedly all day.

It is easy money for the partnerships as regardless of what they claim they get a share or proceeds if you take a course, if it is a fine it goes to the treasury

Indeed -  been like that for as long as I remember.

Just refreshed my knowledge by reading up on the ADAC website (German version of the AA)

Article from May this year

https://www.adac.de/verkehr/standpunkte-studien/positionen/tempolimit-autobahn-deutschland/#:~:text=Über Jahre lehnten sie ein,ein Tempolimit%2C 54 Prozent dafür.

Even though majority of their members in favour of general speed limit, only some numbers would support this. Not the accident figures. Autobahns comparatively safe roads.

Possibly fewer emissions when slower speeds are driven, but not as straightforward since lowest emissions are with engine off and not driving. But people and stuff need to get to places.

Was comforting to read that the amount of restricted parts are "only" 30% over the total Autobahn network - feels like more when driving there and felt like a speed limit through the back door by declaring all kinds of stretches as in need of a limit.
