Over the last few days I have been sorting out the wiper motor position, bundy tubes etc.

All finished this afternoon. I have still got to wire the motor up though

Wipers all finished I said. WRONG 🙄

I wired up the motor and tested the operation. Firstly the wheel boxes needed to be rotated 180 degrees to get the wipers moving the right direction. Secondly I realised that I had positioned the wheel boxes too far away from the screen. There was a reason for the position I chose as it looked like they would foul on the chassis bulkhead just under the body.

The wipers were travelling too far towards the end of the upward sweep and the bottom of the blades were travelling off the bottom of the screen and hitting the bodywork. Not good.

So after some careful measuring I decided I could possibly just about squeeze the wiper wheel in behind the chassis bulkhead and have them partly resting on the windscreen bottom rubber seal.

After some rejigging of bundy tubes, repositioning of the wiper motor it’s now all sorted. To finish it off I have a couple of holes in the body to make good where the previous position was.

So here is the motor positioned on the underside of the top chassis plate of the Passenger footwell. This will be hidden by the dashboard.

Didn't Cobras have triple wipers like the E-type?

Some do, some don't. I chose to go with two wipers

IIRC, the triple wiper ones were fantastically inefficient anyway due to the shortness of the arms and their pronounced tendency to lift at speed, so two wipers is probably the better choice. :)

Thanks that's good to know.

I am pleased with the amount of screen area that the wipers are clearing.

A little bit of tidying up today in the garage so no photos for that!

I did fix my nicely laminated fuseboard key on the inside of the lid though. I am sure this will pay dividends in the future!

How did you manage to get the carpet to stretch smoothly over the 3d curves of the wheel arches?  That looks like a fantastic job!

More by luck than judgement I think 😂

Looks awesome. I really wish you would work a little harder though because I am getting impatient to see the finish product! 😄

Regarding the wire in the trunk, again you could get a nice 3D printed cover; iwould just finish things up nicely I think

great work!

Lovely work there Gary!

You can get some surprisingly stretchy carpets for doing lining jobs like the sides of these sorts or areas. It’s not heavy duty enough to cope with doing footwells, where you’re feet rest, or you walk on, but works great on wheel arches and the like.

Have a look at suppliers of trimming materials for things like VW busses/campers, there are a lot of carpet type products intended for doing the lower side walls, wheel wells etc, that work great for Westfield boot boxes etc.

Google 4 way stretch carpet. It's what's used for camper vans etc..
