Tim Reid Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Another clever trick I was told about when my daily was having a stone chipped bonnet sorted was to apply a thin coat of black over the light base coat. Sand it back and any low spots will show up black. Might not be suitable for your application but an idea for consideration anyway.

KugaWestie Posted April 22, 2020 Author Posted April 22, 2020 Good days work today. Firstly I etch primed the drivers side of the car after yesterdays fine filling and sanding. With the warm temperature the paint was drying nice and quick. Next I put two coats of high build primer down the drivers side of the car as well as the drivers door. You can see the high build primer is darker and now matches in with the bonnet. I primed and sprayed the drivers door latch timber packer. I would like to change this at some point for something nicer but it will do for now. I then refitted that latch to the door and refitted the door to the car. It was time to turn my attention back to passenger side of the car, so I drove it out of the garage and turned it around. I then repeated the process of the high power LED torch and reading glasses to pick out all the minor imperfections in the bodywork on the passenger side, filled them and sanded back. I was also unhappy with part of the boot to body fit, so set about rectifying that. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the rest of the car coated with high build primer.
ludo Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 awesome work. You should ask the 3D printing guys to print the spacer and stuff like that, may give it a more finish look. Impressive skills anyhow, I think the finish product will blow past anyone expectations we had after seeing the first pics of the kit!

KugaWestie Posted April 23, 2020 Author Posted April 23, 2020 Well a day of not much progress and going off on tangents. I spent some time looking at the passenger door latch bracket and decided to change it which took me a couple of hours to do. I am glad I did it though as it is much more robust now. I sanded back my boot/body area filling that I did yesterday. Again a job I am glad I did. Then my combined LED reverse and fog lamp arrived so I decided to look at that as it might involve some cutting on the body. To cause no problems at the IVA test this needs to be sitting nice and vertical. Which if I just fit it to the body it won’t be. So I am going to french it into the body. I spent some time thinking about how to do this and decided to make a housing that will hold the lamp in a recessed area. So I made a mould and then made a grp housing. Tomorrow will be brave 💊 time again!
KugaWestie Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 I started today with the fog/reverse lamp. Bodywork cut out in progress Trial fit of the housing Once happy I glassed the housing into the body from behind and then shaped it back This then got filled
KugaWestie Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 Whilst waiting for the filler to dry I repositioned the Zorst tailpipes
KugaWestie Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 The light housing got sanded back and then primed in with the rest of the car. I fitted the light Then checked for reverse function And fog I also pulled the cables for the number plate light into the boot area
KugaWestie Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 I also etch primed the passenger side of the car again after the fine filling exercise. This then got followed up with two coats of high build primer. So now the car is fully primed.
