KugaWestie
Next up was to have a crack at fitting the gas struts on the bonnet. I Had a measure up a couple of weeks ago to decide what length I needed and then bought adjustable pressure ones as I had no idea what pressure would be needed. I marked out the underside of the bonnet, and then got the drill out. I then fitted Jacknuts into the holes, fitted the bonnet brackets and hung the gas struts in position. I then marked out for the bottom fixing and fitted the bottom ball joint bolt. Both sides done. Once in this position I started letting gas out in 1 second bursts alternating from side to side all the time to keep the pressure even. The end result

KugaWestie
Boot panel is next. Sanded both sides and rough filler coat applied where needed
KugaWestie
Underside of boot panel sanded and then etch primed. There are a few imperfections that need some attention/filler, but it is much easier to see these now there is a coat on there.
KugaWestie
Imperfections on the boot panel underside filled Boot aperture etch and high build primed Underside of boot filler sanded, etch and high build primed
KugaWestie
Boot panel turned over and etch primed Once etch primed I could see the imperfections, so out with the filler In amongst waiting for stuff to dry, I started on a template for the boot base panel

KugaWestie
Tonight was the night to tackle the boot struts. Bottom brackets made and fitted, top brackets fitted to underside of boot panel, gas struts fitted and gas let out/adjusted down to allow movement. All good me thinks. Then I tested the operation and closed the boot. This operation was promptly followed by a severe bout of swearing to Tourette’s standard 🤬🤬🤬 After calming down I spent some time looking at the set up, and decided I needed to move the bottom brackets nearer to the front of the car. The next test was much better A good result in the end and I am very pleased with the smooth opening
