Polishing whilst having a beer, why not.

I'd agree it needs to be taller, but might be worth waiting if you can till you can sit in the drivers chair,  to test the proportions

Roll hoop height setting/spacer tubes made up tonight. I then bonded them into the hoops with carbond as well as putting a cut down bolt through the hoop and spacer tube to hold it in position.

My plan is once these have gone off I will smother the spacer tube and bottom couple of inches of the hoops with carbond and then push them into their housing tube on the chassis. Once it has all gone off they should be well and truly fixed.

I decided to have a look at the dash.

A long time ago I bought a dashboard from AK which is a different kit to mine, hoping I could get it to fit.

I started chopping it about to clear the steering column, and got it offered up.

The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that the dash is located centrally on the tunnel, but a mile off at the top against the bodywork.

After some fettling I have got the top section nice and central on the body, but now it is not central on the tunnel, so more work to be done.

Thanks Adge. I have resigned myself to the fact that absolutely every task building this car is far from straight forward 🤯

I have seen the light, or is it a reflection

When I started looking at the dashboard it became obvious (although I already knew really) that the steering column was too beep into the bulkhead. It needed to be positioned further into the cabin area. This is because I am intending to use the column stalks and they were fouling in the dash.

I managed to move the column approximately 40mm closer to the driver position which has made all the difference. This meant that I had to rethink my bracketry to hold the column.

I made up this bracket arrangement, primed it and sprayed it.

It’s now fitted in the car and the column is nice and solid.

It is a tilting/height adjustable column and I was keen to keep this functionality which I have managed to do.

I have also started altering my dashboard to adjust the width where it joins the tunnel.

I'm really impressed by your tenacity in working through and finding workable solutions during the build. Looks like there is a challenge at every step.

It's less of a build and more of a make.

Great work Gary.
