  • 4 weeks later...

2 weeks summer holiday in Portugal done, back to work for a week and now back on the build.

I fitted my newly made fibreglass closing panel to the drivers side rear arch, and then glassed a few areas together.

Closer panel

It pretty much didn’t fit anywhere

I fetched out the DA machine and put a 120 grit pad on it, and spent about an hour sanding.

The panel fits much better now. It still needs a bit of work but I think that it probably needs to have the hinges fitted next to see how it opens and closes once hung.

Keep it up @KugaWestie I’m just wondering if you now look like a massive pink GRP monster that breathes resin-fuelled flames. 😱

I am waiting for a few bits to arrive, so whilst waiting I took a look at the bonnet hinge arrangement.

The first job is to fix the kidney plates to the underside of the bonnet. There is a metal plate sandwiched into the grp of the bonnet, so I drilled and tapped this and temporarily bolted (nice bolts in transit) on the first plate.

More work on the bonnet hinge today.

First job was to shape the box section to the shape of the nose. This involved a cardboard template and the sledgehammer

A few sharp blows, and it was done

With the box section curved to shape the next job was to make a grp housing for it. So I taped up the steel and the worktop, and then made something suitable in a top hat shape.

Once the housing had gone off, I removed the box section, cleaned it up and sprayed it.
