corsechris
Was going to ask the same question. On the pictures, those angles look horrendous but I know how misleading shots like that can be. Besides, if you went too far, it simply wouldn't turn past a certain point at all. As it's spinning without 'notches' I suspect it'll be just fine. The Marcos used to be notchy with the wheels off the ground, it was that bad when I got it. Next issue on that front is to get some decent heat shielding between that header and the UJs & pillow block bearing. That exhaust was a bargain wasn't it - came up lovely too. KugaWestie
Yeah heat shielding is on the list, but all in good time for that. I will need to look at the steering once the body is on as at present I am making assumptions on how much room there is. The starter motor will also need some heat shield when the exhaust is on as it will run fairly close to it.. Back to the exhaust, yes I am very pleased with the result
KugaWestie
Exhaust manifolds/headers cleaned and sprayed tonight. I have used Rustoleum stove paint which is supposed to be good for 650c, so it will be interesting to see how they fare.

Edit: bought these, can let you know what they're like when they arrive if you like Gary @KugaWestie? https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-X-HQSilicone-16-35-25-Ball-Joint-Dust-Boots-Suspension-Replacement-Rubber-Boot-/222124976211?hash=item33b7ae2853:g:AEsAAOSw71BXQF8d&vxp=mtr I reckon you could also use them for passing cables through the bulkhead... KugaWestie
A little job for today (I wish) was to fit the exhaust manifolds. What appeared to be a straight forward job of running 16 bolts into the heads took me just over two hours! The manifolds where slightly distorted, I had to file a weld down, and the two central lower bolts and two rear bolts on each side were painfully slow to run in, only a quarter turn each time was possible and that was with a spanner flip each time. If ever they have to come off once that body is on I think a fair amount of swearing would be involved Passenger side Drivers side
corsechris
Those bolts are always a total PITA, but if you want a real challenge, try it on a Marcos Mantula

KugaWestie
I fiddled around with the CV boot tonight and after some trimming I got to a solution I am happy with. So the column assembly is now bolted in position
neptune
Wow you must be really pleased with that. Did you make the parts yourself or have them made ? I'd like to make a 3 piece column for my westie as it runs very close to the exhaust, but no idea where to go to have parts made.
