KugaWestie Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 I also started sorting out a tray for the battery. Battery footprint marked out Big block of wood cut to the same size as the battery Sides bent up Done I need to work out how to mount it in the chassis next!

WINGNUT Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Nice fabricating @KugaWestie is that battery going to be an issue to get in and out when fully built?

I should be able to reach in through the bonnet to get at it and it will come out through the gap between the exhaust manifold and clutch master cylinder. I will know once I position the body for the first time though. I decided to bolt (instead of weld) the mounting bracket to the footwell bulkhead with that very reason in mind!!

KugaWestie Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 This afternoon has been very satisfying. I have completed the exhaust system, although it is only tacked up at present. I have decided to keep things simple and not have a crossover/x pipe. When I think about it, I have never heard a TVR that does not sound good, so hopefully this system will replicate that sound. I did the more difficult side first which was the front section of pipe on the drivers side. It took me a while to get the pipe joints to an acceptable standard, but the patience paid off in the end. The passenger side was much easier as I did not have to route around the starter motor and clutch slave cylinder Here is the system on the car
KugaWestie Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 Here is the complete system laid out in the back garden I know my limits and do not intend to try and fully weld the system, so here is the pile of pipes I need to take to my friendly welder to sort it for me.
KugaWestie Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 Once it is fully welded I can then look at one more set of hanging brackets/clamps. I then need to decide whether to clean the whole system up and leave it like that or spray it with stove paint
KugaWestie Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 I spent a little while this evening looking at the steering column and started to sort out mounts The brackets are a good start. They will need to be strengthened with gussets etc once I am happy with the position

What colour scotchbrite pad would you recommend @corsechris ??
corsechris Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 I’m guilty of the vacuum/Hoover transposition here, sorry. An abrasive pad....I’ll look at the ones I use and let you know I can tell you they are brown-ish but I can’t recall the brand. ETA. These: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mirka-Mirlon-Abrasive-Finishing-Pads-Scotch-Brite-Ultra-Very-Fine-Grey-Red-x-20/132408058156?epid=2256094761&hash=item1ed422a12c:g:iVkAAOSwBahU1Kex The 'very fine' grade. They do a nice job on steel and aluminium.
Thrustyjust Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Sorry Gary, been missing this and just been catching back up. With regards to the top hose on the rad. My TVR had an expansion vessel/ pressure cap/ highest point pot bolted to the chassis , which then cleared any air from the engine when running. You may have water/ air bleeding fun , unless I have missed something one here :
KugaWestie Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 Some more work done on mounting the column. Gussets added to the mounting brackets There are another couple of mounting positions further down the column in the footwell. I managed to pick these up with some bolts through the top plate above the footwell and some spacers sandwiched in between. I need to finally fix the fabricated brackets but may leave them just clamped in position for now until I offer the body up. I also strapped the battery in
