I can't think of many names that would fit that bill in the whole of Westminster. Too many career politicians with no real world experience advised by muppets straight out of University with lots of theory and very little to back it up. The above is a gross generalisation I know but I really struggle to see why any of them would be better than any of the others. At this point I would only trust someone to run the country if they were willing to liquidate all their assets and invest them in UK PLC. If they do well they get a bonus at the end, if they do a Liz Truss they get diddly...

Indeed, these criteria apply to the PM, sadly no such criteria apply to 'Party Leader' of either party, and one of those 'falls' into the job of PM. Both of our main parties have the same issue, a leader chosen by their membership, to enact a set of policies chosen by the membership, is unelectable. The only way either can get elected is to somehow 'look more like the other party'. No wonder we are in a mess.
corsechris
As a smart man once said. Democracy is a terrible way to run a country….until you look at the alternatives. ’Interesting’ how Xi has done a Putin, changed the rules and stayed on another term, surrounding himself with terrified yes-men and removing any and all dissenting voices. The image of his former boss being dragged out of his seat and marched off stage was chilling. Expect China to invade Taiwan within weeks. Makes our issues look kind of trivial in some ways. MR.C
Everybody knows their place including Russia and China. What they threaten to do and what they do are two different things. Invading Taiwan involves the USA which is the goliath of the modern world.
jeff oakley
There are many politicians on both sides and I include all other parties who are respectable and honorable people, unfortunately since Blair we have had who is photogenic (okay May blows that) people who can perform on TV and that is why we have the ones we do. I would love to see Boris return just to see the left go apoplectic and the media lost, however he is the last person we need. There are many in parliament who want the same thing, good economy people looked after who cannot look after themselves, the NHS working, able to see a GP, the difference is how we achieve those aims. The Tories are always seen as for the rich, Labour beholden to the Unions and controlled by momentum but that is not true for all in those parties. It always makes me laugh when the union barons bang on about vast dividends to shareholders when their members pensions are invested in the very companies they object to. We do not need a GE now; we need a competent person to assemble a team and work the problems through without interference from the Civil Service who want their own way regardless. When things go bad quickly they can turn around as quick if there is a will to do it. Truss was the wrong choice but she had no chance as she was not the choice the MP's wanted and she paid the price. We need to stop being the laughing stock as the markets make our situation worse if they do not agree, sadly 1
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
When I hear that the Tories are only for the rich, I wonder why people do not realise that this is absurd. 'Rich' covers, say, the top 10% of earners for the sake of argument, so why would a party that wants to be in power would address itself to a very minor part of the electorate. Obviously to be elected you have to curry favour with the most numerous aspect of society. Okay so there will be some less rich that aspire to be rich, but each rich person has only one vote. To win you have to be acceptable to the majority.
