Front Grille Wanted - SEiW FW

Recommended Posts

Hello, I’m looking for a front grille in good nick to replace my original which is rusting pretty badly. Anybody got one lying around after an upgrade? My options are remove/ strip/ repaint or replace so I’m starting to look around.

Just for completeness it is an SEiW FW (picture below for reference - clearly taken before the big R got a hold!!).

Cheers, D

Hi @CherryTreeFW David, You'd be much better fitting something like this as others on here including me have done. Lighter/more open and doesn't rust!

Audi/VW Honey comb mesh

If you cut it carefully, you'll have enough for two!

Ditto

Although I used a square mesh as opposed to a diamond one, again I went for stainless due to the area I live in, due to the sea salt.

@Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO - @Paul Aspden (MoFast) - has pointed me in a similar direction. 👍

@OldStager - thanks: I’m going to try tough plastic - it gets quite a beating and I suspect grilles get changed relatively regularly? 😀

Hi, well speaking for myself only, I have had to change it once in 14 years and only because the old one someone else made rusted away, so not as regular as you might think, I suppose if you are pounding up and down a motorway all the time then perhaps yes.

Mine on my 1994 built SeiW rusted and I bought some woven stainless mesh for a replacement.

@oldstager - looks good! I’ve only had mine for just over a year and it was finished only shortly before that, so I guess I was extrapolating in terms of a “natural” lifespan for a steel grill. Seems mine might be anomalous - certainly reinforces my plan to replace rather than refurbish! 😀

I still have the stainless mesh I used in this thread - I might be persuaded to part with it if I can find it....

If you want any original Westfield diamond type mesh I have a large sheet of it in the man cave and you can have as much as you want for free. Obviously need help with postage if not local.

Personally the mesh I now have is the plastic Audi type and the air flow/cooling benifits are outstanding.

@NigelO - thanks, but weighing up what I’ve heard I’m opting for a durable plastic version and I’ve been pointed towards a source, so I think I’m sorted. My current one is fitted with Zipties so I’ll just replicate that with the new one. Cheers, D.

@Jim RS- that’s a generous offer, thanks, but I’ve decided to go for plastic (as you have). I think the plus factors of no rust and improved airflow/ cooling make it the right choice. Do you have a Westfield badge on yours and, if so, where did you get it from? Cheers, D.

I got the badge which is actually on the rear of the car now, but I got it from ( I am pretty sure ) @marcusb, he either makes them or had them made I forget now.

It's the WESTFIELD script one as per what the factory did.
