Dibby Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Another lockdown LED swap out here too. I used the Philips ones from Screwfix, simple to replace and they come with a starter in the pack. They switch on instantly and you get a lot more light from the same fitting. Highly recommended Quote

Highly recommended Have you removed/bypassed the ballast as you'll get more energy saving fi you do? Details here: Ballast bypass I recommend connectors such as these- Wago to join the remaining wires and you may need 3 per fitting. I had to use some of the wires removed to extend some of the connectors to my wiring. The fitting was fully populated with single use auto connect type connections on all points hence you can't easily disconnect and reconnect. Still worth doing though. Quote

I replaced by 54W Florescent tube light with this exact one. Am very pleased with it. It lights up my single garage perfectly and is significantly brighter than the tube it replaced. It almost feels like you are working outside as the colour temperature is like daylight. Quote
Dibby Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Cheers Ian. To be honest, I'm not too fussed about saving a few quid a year of electric at the risk of running my shonky wiring skills. I'll swap the old T8 fittings out for proper LED battens when they start corroding and do a proper job of it. 1 Quote
Dan Ingram Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Might be a bit late to be of any help. I've tried a few different ones over the years. My electrician put me on to these ones. https://www.superlecdirect.com/p-atorled2x6-ansell-tornado-ip65-led-noncorrosive-2-x-35w-twin-fitting-6ft/ I have two of the in my 5m x 5m garage and they are brilliant. Much better performance than the 8 cheap amazon fittings I had in my old garage. Quote
clansman Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Did mine a couple years ago and way better light. Old tube and starter out and LED tube in and away you go. Can't remember where I got mine but well worth the change. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Am a little confused the led replacement tubes say from screwfix say that they kick out around 1800 to 2000 Lumens. Yet the current sylvania tubes that I have are over 5000 lumens. Yet people are saying they make a massive difference?? Are people swapping them for really old knackered tubes? Id swap for proper led units but am not sure I'd bother with fitting led tubes. Quote
Mole Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Originally at work I swapped tubes, then bought LED Tubed fitments.. but best have been the LED battens.. probably put 40 in over past three or four years.. only had a problem with one.. when it got water in it from leaking roof I have often replaced old 8 fts with 5 ft singles of doubles.. and a much better light.. Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I bit the bullet and fitted complete units : https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-twin-6ft-led-batten-white-60w-6000lm/3428v Quote

I'm suprised your current ones are so high though. 44 minutes ago, Steve (sdh2903) said: Are people swapping them for really old knackered tubes? Some of the complete units above may give you better mechanical/environmental protection over a bare tube. You may not want the faff of modding the wiring to get the full energy saving too. It was cheaper to rewire and swap to Osram LED tubes for me. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 https://www.screwfix.com/p/sylvania-luxline-plus-g13-t8-fluorescent-tube-5200lm-58w-1500mm/96871 These are the ones I use. I did replace them this winter after 4 years as I felt they were starting to lose a bit of performance. Did contemplate swapping to led but would have had to spend a lot to better the performance of what's there. OK I'd half the 230watts I'm consuming but that would take a long time to repay the cost. geoffd Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I replaced my old fluorescents with cheap LED bar-type spotlights last year. They have 3 bulbs, except for the one above the car - this has four bulbs. I was able to install that one so two lights shine into the engine compartment. Much better lighting all round, and lower power consumption too! Quote

NigelO Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Consider something like these:- LED Panel I've seen pictures of garages with a number of these set into the ceiling - the light output is amazing and the spread is great. I have four of the 600x300 version in my garage and it's like daylight in there when its dark outside Plenty available secondhand on Ebay Quote
