Driving anything can be purely recreational. As long as you're on your own or with the person/people you live with, it's perfectly legal. And you can meet other families outdoors as long as social distancing is maintained so unless the police can PROVE the journey is in breach of the prevailing guidance there's not much they can do. Lots of things are only guidance but we all sensibly follow that guidance, how to cross the road safely is only guidance (the green cross code for those old enough to remember) we tend to follow that guidance because not to, quite often, ends up in death. The covid guidance is no different, just less obvious, those damb covid viruses are just a lot smaller to see than a great big bus. Mark Drakeford made a good point this morning on TV when he said something along the lines that people need to stop looking at how to strech and interpret the rules to benefit themselves but to start to think could what I'm about to do have a negitive effect on others, is it going to increase the risk of virus transmission etc etc It's for this reason I chose to leave the Westi off the road at the start and I've taken it off now. I'm not going to be using the Westi for anything other then pleasure and therefore to just go for a Drive has the potential (though highly unlikly) to stretch services and place them under greater presure. During first national lockdown but seemingly when the 5 mile travel 'rule' was in operation. I think the reckless bit was the possibility of passing on covid to rescuers. DonPeffers Posted November 2, 2020 Share Posted November 2, 2020 Going beyond Sorn my westie insurance is up for renewal in a few days and this year because of covid I managed only 500 miles and 12 weeks running within a yearly premium, which is unchanged this renewal, but no insurer mention of reduced use/miles (covid) and prem. refund. My road car renewal had no refund despite drastically reduced miles because of virus and lockdown and even had the cheek to increase 18% so I moved on to a better deal. I am thinking of possibly letting the westie insurance lapse and take fire and theft risk myself. Then get new policy when/if we are allowed out at some time next year. Currently unclear when we will be back on the road with (non-essential travel ) westie and even early Spring 2021 might be optimistic. I don't see the lockdown ending on 02 Dec 2020 and if carried into the new year will at least clear the A20 for lorries if Ports problems with EU transition ending (31/12/2020) results in back-up.
