Steve (sdh2903) Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 It's all guidance aswell, not law. If you have to drive somewhere it doesn't matter If your in a Westfield or a tintop. Quote

I'd agree, but what stops me is the ( unlikely) chance of a breakdown and the implied additional risk.... Quote
DonPeffers Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 Westie sorned and with the first UK lockdown 23 mar 2020 being 3 weeks, which turned into 3 months, let's hope this 4 week one doesn't become 4 months. Spain has gone for State of emergency for 6 months lasting until 09 may 2021 https://www.thelocal.es/20201029/spain-parliament-approves-six-month-extension-of-state-of-emergency "Under the state of emergency, Spain's 17 regional governments, which are in charge of health, can impose measures to restrict people's mobility, such as night-time curfews and closing their borders." Apparently this is not same as first full Spanish lockdown. Quote

Driving anything can be purely recreational. As long as you're on your own or with the person/people you live with, it's perfectly legal. And you can meet other families outdoors as long as social distancing is maintained so unless the police can PROVE the journey is in breach of the prevailing guidance there's not much they can do. Quote There will be no limit on the time allowed for exercise outdoors and recreation will allow, for example, sitting on a park bench or eating and drinking outside. From the BBC website which as a nice easy to follow guide to the rules. Quote Customers should not mix indoors with anyone from outside their own household or support bubble. Outdoors, you can meet in groups of up to six people. Quote From 00:01 on Thursday 5 November you should not travel except for specific reasons including education, work (if it can't be done from home), exercise and recreation, medical reasons, food and other essential shopping and to provide care. Lots of things are only guidance but we all sensibly follow that guidance, how to cross the road safely is only guidance (the green cross code for those old enough to remember) we tend to follow that guidance because not to, quite often, ends up in death. The covid guidance is no different, just less obvious, those damb covid viruses are just a lot smaller to see than a great big bus. Mark Drakeford made a good point this morning on TV when he said something along the lines that people need to stop looking at how to strech and interpret the rules to benefit themselves but to start to think could what I'm about to do have a negitive effect on others, is it going to increase the risk of virus transmission etc etc It's for this reason I chose to leave the Westi off the road at the start and I've taken it off now. I'm not going to be using the Westi for anything other then pleasure and therefore to just go for a Drive has the potential (though highly unlikly) to stretch services and place them under greater presure. "Two people broke lockdown restrictions by travelling more than 60 miles (96km) from Glasgow to climb a mountain near Crianlarich, say police. The 27-year-old man and 23-year-old woman had to be rescued after getting into difficulty on Beinn A' Chroin on Saturday afternoon. Killin Mountain Rescue Team was called out to help them. Police Scotland said a man and a woman had been charged in connection with culpable and reckless conduct. Chief Inspector Gill Marshall, area commander for Stirling, said they had put their own lives and those of their rescuers at risk". During first national lockdown but seemingly when the 5 mile travel 'rule' was in operation. I think the reckless bit was the possibility of passing on covid to rescuers. Quote
DonPeffers Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Going beyond Sorn my westie insurance is up for renewal in a few days and this year because of covid I managed only 500 miles and 12 weeks running within a yearly premium, which is unchanged this renewal, but no insurer mention of reduced use/miles (covid) and prem. refund. My road car renewal had no refund despite drastically reduced miles because of virus and lockdown and even had the cheek to increase 18% so I moved on to a better deal. I am thinking of possibly letting the westie insurance lapse and take fire and theft risk myself. Then get new policy when/if we are allowed out at some time next year. Alternative might be laid-up cover. Any members thoughts on lapse or laid -up cover? Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 The laid up cover option from A plan was very reasonable. I'd be gutted to lose the car trying to save a minimal amount by letting it lapse. 1 1 Quote
neptune Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 I second Steve's comments. I had A plans laid up cover for a year while rebuilding my car. it gave very reasonable peace of mind 1 1 Quote
DonPeffers Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Thanks guys and I will look into laid-up cover. Currently unclear when we will be back on the road with (non-essential travel ) westie and even early Spring 2021 might be optimistic. I don't see the lockdown ending on 02 Dec 2020 and if carried into the new year will at least clear the A20 for lorries if Ports problems with EU transition ending (31/12/2020) results in back-up. I'm happy to 'carry' the fire and theft risk myself if need be. Quote
DonPeffers Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Scotland's level 3, five mile travel limit (unless work, care etc) currently advice might become Law. today https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-54812972 "Covid in Scotland: Sturgeon 'actively considering' travel ban in law". Quote
