GaryD1971
@Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) , @TableLeg the deal has been done and I'm now awaiting delivery of a New old stock bonnet for less than the cost of the fibreglass repair kit and a decal! Thanks everyone for your ideas and assistance. Once again, this club proves itself to be above and beyond what could ever be expected. 😁

GaryD1971
Bonnet turned up yesterday and it is the wrong shade of yellow and it doesn't fit! Back to the other ideas that I have been given. So, if anyone wants a slightly orangey yellow bonnet to fit a narrow body, possibly lowline car, I'm ya man..... 😂

It'll be on the selling pages tomorrow when I can get some decent pictures and get some measurements. It's not like I don't have plenty of options with some of the ideas I've been given. 😁
BillyPee
The bonnet on mine has a butchered hole covered up with a trim panel. It is aluminium folded to shape, with 3M carbon fibre wrap on it. Slightly hidden in this picture but I am sure you get the idea. A previous owner fitted this. I have a sheet of carbon fibre ready to replace it when I get around to painting the bonnet, plus I will use black pop rivets. I realise the hole you have to cover is a little larger but I suspect you will be able to achieve a tidy finish with this approach.
GaryD1971
Thanks @BillyPee. That does look neat. 👍
BillyPee
Thanks @GaryD1971 If you do decide to go with a decal option, then you could consider the Benetton B192 livery as a starting point (image from Wikipedia). You already have the base yellow and could cover the front of the bonnet in green and carry that on down the side, with a stripe of blue across the nose cone. I think the colour scheme alone (minus the sponsor logos) could look quite effective and would take your eye away from the repair (whereas a sticker over the repair draws your attention). Admittedly it is a brave/bold thing to do but at least if you do it in wrap and its easily reversible.
GaryD1971
Thanks for that idea @BillyPee, but the only issue I can see is that the car had a green stripe on it when I got it which was not to my taste and took approximately 3 weeks to remove using acetone and polish. Admittedly it was rattlecan paint and it was not pretty, but I've had this aversion to yellow and green ever since... Having said that, the stripe on the car in the pic looks nothing like the green stripe that once hideously graced the whole length of my car. Had my stripe been done properly, I probably would have kept it but it was done in such a poor way with lots of bleed through where the masking tape hadn't stuck properly and a rough Matt finish on a lovely gloss yellow body. It had to come off! This is a pic of the car on the day I got it. Not the same as the lovely paint job on the F1 car, but I'm sure you'll understand why green is not my first choice of contrasting colour! 😂
BillyPee
Definitely looks better without that green stripe and I can understand your aversion to green.
GaryD1971
Finally nailed the "hole in the bonnet" conundrum! Might be a bit hard to see where I'm going though... 😁 😎
