New owner - Request for history...

Hey guys!

New member/owner from West Lothian, Scotland

Been keeping my eyes peeled for a Westfield now for sometime to replace my Integra as my track car.

Imported the DC2 back in 2016 and with the value of clean examples on the rise it was starting to feel like a bit of a risk taking her out on track.

I bought very rusty S2000 back at the end of 2018, broke it and managed to make my money back on the parts...minus the engine, box etc.

I considered building a Westfield mega S2000 kit but in honesty didn't want the hassle of IVA etc. so I set about looking for an SEiW that I could install the f20c engine.

A 1999 SEiW popped up for sale less than an hour from me, no build sheet or history but with my intention to use the S2000 engine I figured this was a good bargaining chip. Went and viewed the car and was happy enough to drive it away that day...

Plan to use the car as much as I can for the rest of the summer then strip her down over the winter to do the engine swap and just generally tidy her up, powder coat the suspension arms etc.

Engine will be up for sale once it's out so if anyone has any history on the car it would be greatly appreciated. The car has a WSCC sticker on the roll bar so I'm hoping someone on here recognises it and can tell me a bit more about it.

While I plan to use the car for track days I will also be looking to do some road trips out to the West Coast etc. so first job is to try and find a windscreen kit (screen, mirrors, wipers etc). then wet gear, doors etc.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a windscreen for sale or the best place to purchase it would be appreciated

That Engine looks like it has been moved back a bit, not much room around the bellhousing.

Will PM you my number and email to be added to the mailing list, although I'll be holding off on any long journeys until I source a screen and wet gear...too much of a risk in bonnie Scotland.

I’m not sure if you will be able to do a straight swap without doing some chassis modifications or cutting the S2000 bell housing.

Cracking car though by the looks of it!

ten or fifteen years ago, the S2000 was regarded as one of the hardest engine swaps to do in a Westfield. It's become much easier since then, due to Westfield themselves making an S2000 model. However, Westfield had the whole chassis re-designed to suit, so be aware, it's not the same as a standard car, by a long chalk.

At least now though, you can buy loads of parts off the shelf, so to speak, to do the conversion.

One of the main complications, is that the engine and gearbox are so physically big! When the factory were having the chassis re-developed for the Mega S2000 model, they used one of their existing chassis as a starting point, this was one with the widest transmission tunnel they made, and even then, it had to be tweaked wider! It also had the scuttle area modified to clear the bellhousing. Though most people trying to do the swap on existing cars end up cutting a big chunk out of the bellhousing, and have it plated over, instead.

They do work really well in a Westfield though, and it's a hugely charismatic engine...

Also be aware, that compared to current standard Westfield's, the Mega S2000 has extra bracing around the rear diff area - current cars already have this strengthened compared to many nineties and earlier cars. As it's a know weak spot when higher power engines and sticky tyres are used.

There's lots you could do to brace an older style rear though.

No need - just did 1000 miles around the Highlands with a lot of mixed weather. Also did 1500 miles or more around the alps a few years ago with 5 other aeroscreened cars.

Just wear the right clothes and a helmet and forget the windscreen 👍

I personally know of two older cars with s2000 shoehorned in and @phil.mercboy still has his I believe. Not an easy job for sure but can be done.

Yeah, probably around half a dozen I'm aware of, but it's one you need to go in with, with your eye's open!

Sizing up the S2000 gearbox and the exisiting tunnel it looks like it will definately need some 'adjustment' to get everything to fit.

Car will get completely stripped down once the MOT runs out early Oct and will take it from there. Need to get studying the S2000 build threads to try figure out where to have additional bracing etc installed.

haha - but honestly, @KennyP was with us and never actually fitted his roof - as it just gets too much condensation in there! (I believe that's right Ken?) - however, he does like his full screen

Note, when comparing to an older chassis, some of the difference you’ll see aren’t unique to the S2000/Sport 250 chassis, they’re just improvements made to all cars over the last twenty years or so.

Here you can get an idea of what has to be cut out of the bell housing to cope with a non S2000 chassis, (though note, the chassis this ‘box went in was till a wide transmission tunnel version, so extra mods way we’ll be needed on an MT75 tunnel car.)

Here you can see where the bell housing has been plated over, and was being test fitted in the chassis.

This is a car converted by an old member, Phil - posted as Lloydox on here. He does have a build thread with more info.

check this build thread out it should give you a good idea of the clearance for the bellhousing.
