Can the 'lockdown' work much longer?

There is now a formal investigation into DC ? Be interesting to see the outcome. I don't mind either way. If he has broken the law then charge him . If not then drop it and apologise

I think the main concern about DC is his poor judgement rather than what he actually did, and whether it was illegal or not. He must have known how it would look, and he must also have known there was no way he could do anything even vaguely questionable without the media, opposition parties and many from his own party that he’s p******** off from jumping on it.....and causing problems for the govt.  Any arguments about looking after his family etc are frankly moot, it’s all about appearances and he has to know that.

I think the baying hounds should just do one personally, but that's as naive as expecting our leaders to hold themselves to higher standards.

I particularly like Nicola Sturgeons stance on this, she seems to have forgotten that she stood behind her medical advisor in remarkably similar circumstances, but now she criticises Boris for doing the same thing.  At least her advisor saved her the agony and fell on her sword.

I agree with the Sturgeon comment above.

What p***es me off is the selfish actions of those who don’t follow the guidelines endangers lives and inconveniences everyone who does.  The 1.8m of us in the extremely vulnerable group, who initially were told to stay at home and not leave their property and stay 3m away from even their loved ones and spouses for 12 weeks, had it extended to 14 weeks (30 June) because it wasn’t getting under control.  I was supposed to automatically be on a priority list for supermarket home deliveries - never happened.  Any time someone like DC responds to having the virus by doing something like driving 250 miles away just invites an extension to that date - it’s ridiculous that he did so, whatever the excuse.  I’m sitting here, glorious weather, Westfield ready to go, and twiddling my thumbs because I’m being responsible to others and the NHS when others who are busy telling us what to do are not doing it themselves and it really boils my p***.

Hes still not done himself any favours. He could have just come out explained what he did and apologised if people thought he was taking the wee. But he's still stubbornly refusing to admit he's made an error of judgement. His arrogance is the key factor in getting everyone's back up and why they are hounding him.

Captain Colonial. Everyone's situation is different and that's unavoidable  However I will be quite clear its your right to follow whichever  guideline you wish  and it's my right to exercise what is right and correct in my household.  In our circumstances and with a front line worker in the house going out to take exercise has been extremely important. We go in the car somewhere quiet, there is no restriction on mileage never has been. Would I go to the beach if crowded probably not but don't clamp down on exercise for other people who desperately need it. There are a whole slice of people in between.

Steve I'm suprised he did the press statement but more suprised he was not the person I was expecting to see from press descriptions.   Carefully managed and prepared maybe and clearly a man who doesn't suffer fools or  possess everones social skills but to be honest many people at that  level I've worked with don't.

Very surprised too.

However as the man who's allegedly pulling the strings behind the scenes in creating these guidelines. He surely has to realise that despite the fact he may well have been doing the right thing in his mind, it looks dreadful. It just looks bad in every way to the public who are supposed to be following the rules he has helped create.

Its a simple case of do as I say not as I do. And to the public who have made sacrifices to follow guidelines its a massive kick in the teeth.

I do kind of agree with the sentiment of what he did. But I don't agree with how he's behaved and portrayed himself as a right arrogant git.

And the whole 'i drove a short distance to test if I could drive and ended up 30 miles away and then sat by a river' line is the one where he loses all credibility with me.

You don't trial if your fit to drive or not on a public road and not for 30 mins each way. And surely if your 'trialling your driving' should you take along the wife and child for the ride?

I'm surprised non of the journo's roasted him on this point. But then again with the standard of questions being put forward at any of the press conferences maybe im not so surprised.

He wont go as boris is completely stuffed without him.

From my experience in industry and motorsport the achievers are a lot like that. Sure they make mistakes like us all but they get a lot more done, they are very driven people. I'm not bothered if someone has no social skills or is arrogant if they get the job done.i suspect the best industry bosses and leaders have traits like this.

Did I entirely believe him, well maybe not but he gave the right answers and new the legislation which I've read and was clear enough.

Actually I said the same to my wife about the 30 minute drive and she looked at me shocked . Asked if I was serious and said she wouldnt want to set out on a long trip without a check first and wouldn't let me out on my own either.  She said if not right I'd have stopped you before the end of the drive. She thought that a sensible thing to do ! I actually saw her point also. Ho hum

I'm sorry but if you don't know if your fit to drive or not  before you get behind the wheel, then you shouldn't be driving full stop.

Sorry dont agree. If clearly not fit then dont go out. If you feel fit enough to do then go out and check. I used to do driving checks for work and we had to at least start to drive before deciding. If not good  enough then stop. It's never that black and white and you can stop at any point.

So you'd be happy being hit by a driver 'trialling' their driving? What if your child was knocked down by someone 'trialling''? What about a brain surgeon? Happy for them to try and see how they get on? Its absolutely that black and white. Your either fit or you ain't.

if I'm at work it's stipulated in my licence that if I'm not fit I don't certify the task. I dont trial it first.

Same for any airline pilot, train driver, bus driver. Lorry driver etc etc

Thats your black and white definition of not fit but there are millions of acceptable scenarios inbetween and you don't know if this example was one of those. Unless you were there you don't know what his condition actually was you are guessing the worst and the example of killing children is above me and didn't happen. And please dont aim that at me. I thought we were having a sensible and balanced conversation . Clearly not.
