Can the 'lockdown' work much longer?

But said individual was already down in Cornwall when the lockdown occurred, and has stayed down here since.

He owns multiple houses here, bus remained in the same one with all his family,  so press not 100% accurate again on that one

Thanks AJ.  Yes he travelled on 20 mar so prior to the official lockdown announced on 23 mar.

Press not always accurate agreed and reflected in the veracity index.

Seems some locals are going a bit Straw Dogs if recent reports are correct.

it is the public perception that matters

When public perception is driven by the press there is plenty of room for half-truths, hyperbole, sensationalism or whatever. The same rules apply now as they did before lockdown. What are the press leaving out of the story? Now is the time for journalists to find in themselves to actaually report the full facts garnered from proper investigations and research. Now is not the time for nonsense.

The PM's message on 16 March 2020...

PM tells Britons to avoid non-essential travel and contact    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/16/pm-tells-britons-to-avoid-non-essential-contact-with-others

Quote from the PM "“Now is the time for everyone to stop non-essential contact with others and to stop all unnecessary travel."

The 'unnecessary' bit wasn't defined .

I guess the story is from several angles.

Hypocritical - not really.

House envy - would the story have the same impact if his houses were tiny and cheap?

I want leaders to be high achievers. I don't want their cv to say did badly at school but was promoted because they spent so long on multiple committees. High achievers often come with "baggage" but if they perform well I can live with that.

When Boris comes back to 20 hour days I want him to spend weekends at Chequers, his holiday home!

When this crisis is over there will be time for "lessons" like disband Public Health England.

Not sure about Boris being at Chequers, it is walking distance (less than eight miles), from where I live!  Can't have any old virus ridden people in the Chilterns!

Mind you, Gordon Brown refused to use it allegedly, and Corbyn didn't get the chance thankfully! Welcome Boris...

There was a pub nearby called the Bernard Arms at which various PMs drank with guests and there was a picture of Boris on the wall drinking with John Major. Boris Yeltsin of course. The pub, and Yeltsin, are no more.

Eight miles is slightly more than the 2m separation rule, you should be fine.

It might take him a month to recover. Best go slow at first.

While it’s true that traffic is much reduced at the moment, it’s also being taken advantage of by some drivers speeding.  The road outside my home has a 30 mph limit but at the moment, you’d never know it.  It’s become a drag strip for boy racers and budding superbikers from 7 AM to midnight, frequently doing 60-70 mph.  My friend who is a lorry driver for a distribution chain says he’s never seen anything like it on the motorways, fewer cars but more speeders doing a ton or more.

So while the odds of an accident may (or may not) have been reduced, the number of speeders who could potentially require an intensive car bed (or a coffin) has definitely risen.

this doesn’t surprise me. I live reasonably close to the a34 at the mo. It’s crazy quiet and has been for weeks. That is until the silence is broken by the mobile donation machines. Not so many cars giving it some.
