One does need a little elbow room. You need a tent that says ‘6 man tent’ if want to accommodate 2 or 3 adults. Yep I always half the man-count when looking. I find a 3 man tent suits me and 5-6 man tent works well for me & the missus (who is smaller than me before you ask 😁)

I suggest you have a test camp in your back garden etc. you'll find in the summer that you've got no chance of entering the tent as it will be way to hot, in daylight. You'll be up at the crack of dawn when the sun comes up due to the light and also dawn Corus etc. Yes, you can wear earplugs and eye masks etc. They have their purpose, but I'd give it a go close to home before venturing away from home or spending a lot of money. Don't forget you've got airbeds, sleeping bags etc to carry. We've used tents successfully for two trips to Le Mans however we only really get any sleep in it on the Fri night and the Sun night. I can just fit a 6 man tent in the footwell of bagpuss and then a bag on the passenger seat for the rest of my gear. How people manage to camp two up, is impressive @Brad Stone

As I said it’s a cracking tent but even though it’s a 2-hobbit tent I now use a bigger one with a decent porch. But please do try it.

You can strap virtually anything to a roll bar @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO, just adjust the preload and "it'll be reet" 🥳🥳
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup)
Thanks everyone for all the comments and advice. This is what I have ended up with after discussions. Coleman Chimney Rock 3. It ticks all the boxes that I want for now so will see how it goes.
dhutch
Cracking job, should do you well. I have the Vango equivalent of the tent you posted originally which was about half the price, and had another similar one before that, and I must say it's bl**** good bit of tent for what it is, lasted well and is amazing for the money, but the Coleman has a better rain rating, and larger outdoor space is nice too especially if there is two of you Daniel
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup)
Just put the tent up to give it a try. I have never had a tent before but very impressed with the quality and the ease of erecting. The blackout bedroom is great. really dark with the door closed. Plenty of head height with room to sit in the porch.

dhutch
Cracking. Black out room sounds good, and does silver to keep it cool.
