Peak District Run Out, Sun 20, Matlock 10.30

Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative

Recommended Posts

I have had a play around with the route, to cut out the town centre of Buxton, and it is all now on high ground so wrap up warm. The views will be stunning in the sunshine that is now forecast, big skies will rule.

@Trevturtle you might even need your heated gloves, don't forget to charge the batteries like me

The good news is that we won't be sat outside this week and there is a real fire at our lunch stop 🔥

Thanks for another great day. I even got back before the heavens really opened.

Oh what a shame Paul, next time then hey. So, at Sainsbury's we had a Mega Busa waiting for us, owned by another Paul. He had just done his car up and it looked beautiful, did I get a photo of it? did I heck, damn, damn. New Cobra seats with yellow piping, freshly painted bodywork/wheels and a compact looking engine under the bonnet (my mind is still getting over the massive Jag engine in Kev's car last week). Paul had just come to say hello today as he had other business in the area, hopefully we will see him and his beautiful car again soon.

Andrew, Trevor, Martin, Andy and us all parked at Sainsburys and ready for the off.

The route was very off piste as we went past Thornbridge Hall and up onto Longstone Edge for our photo.

The air was clear and the views were good

After the boys had watered the local flora and I made sure I wasn't photographing in that direction (no telescopic lens here), we set off on more of the quiet roads, after driving past a very busy Yondermann complete with a speed camera van outside.

High up the views were great over Win Hill, Lose Hill and down into the Hope Valley. This fetched us into the backside of Castleton and nicely onto the Winnats Pass. We had a good run up there, remembering to smile at the company taking photographs at the side of the road, landing us at The Wanted Inn, Sparrowpit for midday.

A quick photo, 'Trevor, stop hiding behind Martin and behave!' 😁

Andrew checked the forum while we were in the pub (thank you) and informed us that Paul was indeed a numpty. Stephen and Sally in the Jag joined us for lunch. The pub was very toasty warm with a real fire going, we all enjoyed our lunch, in fact we ate all the pies, as they had run out once we had finished ordering. @IanK (Bagpuss) would have enjoyed the conversation when it turned to which combination of doors/half doors/wind deflectors and roofs is best - ditch the pamper aids and wrap up hey.

The next bit was excellent, with slightly bigger roads and following a Citroen with a young lad driving. His driving ability was excellent, the limiting factor was his car, he did well though. A few people bottomed out as we walloped along. We soon arrived noisily at Wetton and excitedly debated which cake was the best (we have tried most of them). Andy was delivered the biggest slice as usual, how does he do that? he must bribe them on the way in or is it his boyish good looks 🤣

This photo was taken before it rained. The eagle-eyed will see Trevor practising his new dance moves, hilarious.

As we sat, we were informed that it was raining, so the drivers ran outside to cover their cars, it's a ruddy good job the cake was yet to arrive or it could have got messy in there. Glen, Stephen and Sally would have looked after it all, I am sure, not.

And that was that, another successful day out with great driving friends, thank you for coming everyone. Even Stephen was still smiling, which meant that Sally did a good job of driving his very precious Jag, she is an ex-MX5 driver so she must be good, it's been a pleasure to finally meet you, Sally.

Some of the Bikerspics for this day through Winnats Pass are now on line, unfortunately so far only up to 12.00 mid-day. So the Westies are there to be seen, and ordered if you wish. Unfortunately my Jaguar went up the pass after mid-day, so in the next batch, yet to be posted.

Not the fault of Mrs H., my fault through a navigation error, which meant we were 15 or 20 minutes later than we should have been Hence I didn't get my beef and ale pie, 'cause someone else got there before me!😄😃
