Sam-Kit car dreams Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Hi all, I was a member here a long time ago when I first bought my car (2006). Alas it still isn’t road legal. Job losses, a lack of interest and spending money on other things has stopped me completing the car even after nearly 13 years. It hasn’t been started for about 6 years ! I am now in a position to spend the money and get it on the road. Jobs to do: New battery See if the engine will turn over by hand (I do hope so) Fresh fuel Discs to be skimmed or replaced Replace all tyres Refit passenger seat (it got wet) Fit IVA parts, nut covers etc Do anything else I find wrong! Is 13 years in September and still not done a record? Quote
Andy (Sycho) Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Welcome back! Good luck in getting it finished, if you post some photos up I’m sure we can help identifying IVA jobs as things may have changed over the years. 1 Quote
Kevin (Mr T) Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Hi Sam, Look forward to seeing how you get on. Photos of the car would be great. Where are you based? Good luck! Quote
Jude - The Mad Widow Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Well done for perseverance! My late husband did similar. Work. Lack of cash and time... I'm sure you will get some help and support if you tell us where you are. Let's see pix!!! Quote
dhutch Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Good work. I'm picking up a re-engine job on mine 2years it dropped a valve and I started the job, following much change in circumstance (found a girl, moved house, moved job, house is a project of its own right, usual) I a determined not to miss the whole summer! Post on here if there is anything we can help with. Might even have another member nearby who can come over for ab evening. Daniel 1 Quote
Sam-Kit car dreams Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 Thanks for the encouragement and it will be good if I can get some advice on the IVA changes. Some pics attached when I took the cover off this morning. 1 Quote
Sam-Kit car dreams Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 I took the spark plugs out and got the engine turning over by hand so that’s the main thing I was concerned about sorted out. Also got the brakes freed off too but I may replace all the discs or get them skimmed. Will see how they look once it is running and I can drive it up our cul de sac and get rid of the corrosion a little if I can. 2 Quote
Sam-Kit car dreams Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 Then I gave it a good clean 👍 looks a lot better than before I started. One of the neighbourhood cats used it to sleep in for months so the carpet was covered in white cat hair. The passenger seat needs to go back in aswell when I get a new cover. 9 Quote

Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 That looks well and not the 'barn find' I was expecting given the length of time etc. I'm sure you'll have it all ready with the great help on here and a bit of time and effort! Quote

Mark Tearney Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Looks much better after a quick clean up. After reading this it confirms my choice of buying one ready built, good luck getting on the road I'm sure there will be plenty of advice and support on the forum. Quote

I built it on a full time basis after MG Rover closed, it on its wheels and running in three weeks but I do know what you mean, the fully built option is favourable. My original plan was to build them and sell them but I think, looking back, that was not really the greatest idea I ever had ! 1 Quote
