Stu Faulkner Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I have found a few Mini DV and vhs tapes and wondered about converting to PC/dvd. I still have a vhs player somewhere but not a mini DV camera what’s the easiest way? Quote
groucher Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 If you have many MiniDV tapes then easiest to buy a second hand camera, that has usb or firewire external connections, then you can directly input this into a PC computer, and use windows movie maker to record the videos, it will even create separate videos, date & time them too, and rewind your tape when done, this isn't part of windows 10 anymore but you can install it as part of the windows live essentials programs, if you google it. Not all PC's have a firewire port, but you can buy them PCI input cards and add them, but some order laptops do have them as standard, any camera with a usb export would be even easier. VHS to dvd, a little harder, as any VHS recorder, will only have scart or component exports, so you might need a converter box, between the VHS player and the PC to convert the signal something like this. https://www.amazon.co.uk/slp/vhs-to-digital-converter/vdhahbywcep4vsw MiniDV will be fairly good quality once on disk, the VHS might look a little blocky, as its only 520 lines through the scart output. Or you could just pay a company, not cheap but they do all the hassle for you, unless you like the challenge. hope this helps regards scott 1 Quote
Kingster Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 I know I’ll get ribbed for this by @Trevturtle but I think I have a DV camera in the garage! I will see if I can dig it out and bring it to Stoneleigh for you @Stu Faulkner 1 Quote
Stu Faulkner Posted April 29, 2019 Author Posted April 29, 2019 Thanks @groucher I’ll see you @Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO at Stoneleigh. I had a camera but sold it with the helmet that it was attached to but did nothing with the footage I took Quote
