Mole Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Let's definitely get together in the spring..looks like there are enough of us for a coastal meet up and probably a central get together and tie in with some Suffolk and Essex and Cambridgeshire owners.. Quote

Phil Nelson Posted February 8, 2018 Author Posted February 8, 2018 Well after getting the first chance of looking at the Westfield today, a bit of good news! I thought the car was a SEW as it was not advertised as having independent suspension, but it is actually an SEI with drum rear brakes! Not sure what that really means in terms of driveability or ease of maintenance? The Westfield looks very well made indeed and has stood up surprisingly well to its 22 years of intermittent use. It has hardly been used in 10 years, but the engine starts up well with signs of recent maintenance. The alternator light is flickering, but I expected all kinds of issues and have budgeted accordingly The engine requires further running and a tune before I take it on the road, by which time hopefully the weather will have improved. GaryD1971 Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 From what I have gleaned from others on this site, I believe the difference between the live rear axle and the independent one would really only become apparent on the race track, although I am not an expert in this area! For driveability and maintenance, check the oil level in the diff and a new set of shoes in the rear drums and pads in the front probably wouldn't hurt for peace of mind. The alternator sounds like it might need changing or repairing before road use, but that's not a huge job. Also, check the tyres haven't perished if it hasn't been used much for 10 years, as they may look good with lots of tread, but perishing is an MOT failure and rather dangerous too! Welcome to Westfield ownership! Quote
JohnL Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 And another Lakenheath Suffolk 1.8 Zetec SEiW Quote
Thrustyjust Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 Drums and independant means its an early car with a westfield cast housing to hold an escort diff. I believe. Could be a useable car, but the parts for the rear are pretty scarce , should you need a driveshaft replacement or a diff casting. Anything is useable , but we need some piccies here Quote
GaryD1971 Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 What Thrusty said! More piccies please! Quote
BugMan Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Pix'a, we love Pic's and it might reveal its history somewhat Quote
