SootySport Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 When you seal it, how can you feed the leather afterwards? I feed my seats every 3 months or thereabouts with a specialist cream to keep the leather supple. Quote

SootySport Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 So I gather you are sealing the colour in but the cream can still get through to the leather. Took me 2 weeks of eves & weekends to renovate all the leather of an XJ6, hands ached for weeks after. I did a leather and trim 'Workshop' at the Browns Lane Jaguar factory many moons ago, learnt a lot form the experts, all for free as well. 1 Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 I was very apprehensive when I started doing it (I had been putting it off for weeks) but am very pleased with the results Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I can't speak for older leathers on classsics, but it's interesting if you speak to specialists that deal with care and restoration of modern leather automotive trim; most I've come across say the same thing - all modern automotive leathers have a sealant layer on them, and that most of the leather care creams that claim to be absorbed into the core of the hide somehow are just snake oil. Thats not to say that the use of leather care creams is not worthwhile, just that the way they're working, on the good ones at least, may we'll be misunderstood by many of the users. Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 So, the finished product now the Satin coat has been applied Remember that cracked rough looking base? Side bolster Base bolster Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Some shots of the completed passenger seat against the unstarted drivers seat when I refitted the passenger seat to the car 1 Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 I just need to refit the drivers seat and then apply the protection cream to both seats. I am well pleased with the results! Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Superb, wish I'd know about this when I had my old five series years ago, the seats always did let it down. 1 Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Seats all back in the car now, just some protection cream to add after 7 days Quote
TAFKARM Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I was sceptical when you were half way through, but the finished product looks fantastic, well done! Quote

Thanks. It was one of those jobs I really did not fancy taking on (worrying I would ruin them), but they have exceeded my expectations! Quote
