Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 This is a brilliant road on the West Coast of Scotland. You just keep climbing up and up and up. Brilliant views throughout on this single track road. There are a number of hairpin bends just before the summit and these are great fun. Plenty of parking at the top and don't forget a pair of pocket binoculars. Just be aware that it can be sunny at the bottom but not at the top so its best to have something warm and waterproof with you....just in case. Here is a little video that shows sections of the road but it doesn't show the fantastic views . Sorry about the music. It may not be everyones "cup of tea." 7 Quote
Onliest Smeg David Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Your right about the music - doesn't do it for me BUT Everything else about this fantastic psrt of Bonnie Scottie Land does. Photos and videos never do it justice. I am well looking forward to a third trip there. IT's just a stunning area. 1 Quote
John Dolan - Wirral & North Wales AO Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 Nice one Geoffery, The music didn't spoil it one bit, but I did turn it down a little. Already planning our third trip next year. Wouldn't mind some of that blue stuff for the trip, got very wet this year, but thoroughly enjoyed every mile. John. 3 Quote
DonPeffers Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 Spot on about the road and I enjoyed the music. The last time I went to Applecross was on a sunny 550 mile day drive Edinburgh to Applecross (lunch) and return on a very sunny August day in 2014. 1 Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted July 15, 2017 Author Posted July 15, 2017 Thanks for the nice comments men. That sounds like an epic day @DonPeffers and I love adventures like that. @bollockybill I am also well on with planning my trip for next year. It would be great if we could meet up. I am looking at the first two weeks of June again. I am also looking to miss Isle of Skye out next year so we can spend more time Island hopping on the Orkneys. Quote
DonPeffers Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 I love reading your Westy adventures and how you just battle thru sometimes appalling weather--admirable. Having checked BBC weather online it's currently raining heavily in Applecross and I usually find the North West of Scotland has drier weather from late July thru most of August but nowt guaranteed. I used to be an all year round kitcar runner but with my arthritic hands, knees and hips (double hip replacement on offer but I have declined meantime and am taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements) I can no longer get in with the hood on so go runs on stable weather days (easy now I'm retired). Enjoy your trips Geoffrey and I look forward to the next instalment. 1 Quote
