Any sky TV customers?

Well following on from another TV related post. I found out today that it's looking like Sky won't be showing discovery channels as of the 1st of Feb. Sky will not be reducing the subscription rates accordingly. 

Seems as though sky only interested in lining footballers pockets these days and not caring about the customers who watch the decent stuff.

Virgin are good at costing the earth and showing 15 billion channels of diddly squat when you have a chance to sit down. No wonder I built the car in 11 weeks ............. And on another note, why do I watch Car SOS , Wheeler Dealers and the adverts are about womens bladders control pads, ladies department dryness and ladies fungus things ? Wife reckons its to keep the wives interested as cars dont flick their wick !! When I said to virgin, that my TV and internet costs are more expensive than 3 cars insurance costs, they didnt answer.

Sky, what a waste of money! I've just got an amazon fire tv and downloaded kodi on to it, (took 5 mins with a YouTube tutorial) hey presto, everything you ever want to watch for free.

chopped sky 9 years ago, bought Humax freesat box for £280 and more recently an Amazon Firestick.

9 years at £50 pcm is £5400.

So, I'm up over 5k.

Netflix is the way to go £6 a month and loads of TV and Film, Bargain.

sky customer for 20yrs I reckon  - this is the final straw, they are putting up the subs and taking 12 channels away, crucially channels I watch a lot, I mean no fast n loud, Dakar or WD .. and air crash investigations

The Discovery channels, till the past couple of years at least, were always the key channels for me. They were the main reason I went Sky in the first place.

Im now checking if I can get the content that I've got into from the other Sky channels through other sources. If I can, for reasonable cost, im going to seriously reconsider. I have neither Sport nor Movies on my subscription, and still they seem to have figured a way to get it above forty odd quid a month. (HD and Plus, I suppose on top of the ever increasing basic subs).

Would the BT TV packages work? They definitely carry Discovery.

But you would need to get broadband from them as well. They're not cheap, but they ain't  £90..!

I've never had Sky but lots of friends used to. But they've all been bailing out to other providers

Hmm, interesting, I already have BT Infinity, so that's not a problem. Will have a look at their channel selection...

I've had a look n the BT site, and I reckon if I went for their premium TV package, I'd get pretty much every channel I watch on Sky, bar Sky's own Sky HD, Atlantic etc.

As far as the Sky channels go, I can certainly get the programs I watch via streaming services like Amazon, Netflix etc on a pay per view/purchase box set basis, though I might have to wait six to twelve months for the on-line/download services to catch up to the current broadcast episodes. Not the end of the world!

The premium package is currently on offer at about £10/month, I believe it's normally about £18, that's still £26 a month less than my current Sky subscription.

I'm so very, very tempted...

Have a look at the offering by NowTV.  You can watch all the blockbuster TV series/channels for SKY on there for a small amount a month...

Thanks Q, that fills in all the gaps! Pushes the costs up somewhat, but still less than Sky.

Isn't all this brinkmanship?? Sky want to get Discovery cheaply and keep their viewers and Discovery want to retain their advertising income. Right now it's a lose/lose but it will end up a win/win (I hope)!

I'm hoping to, so I'm not going to rush in to a knee jerk reaction, but likewise, I have actually started to loose patience with Sky's Satelite package side of the business.
